their punishment and decide whether or
not the Mansons should be released on
parole
Students will defend their opinions
regarding whether the prisoners should be
let out on parole in a class discussion
Students will complete a reading
worksheet
Students will speak in class discussion
about whether they would support or
deny the Manson family members parole
if they were on the parole board.

-Introduction and PowerPoint: 7 minutes
-Reading article and completing the worksheet : 20
minutes
-Discussion and closure: 15-20 minutes
TOTAL: 45-50 minutes
-I will first show the pictures of the inmates on the
PowerPoint and say where each member is today
-1 will show the students the link to Susan Atkins'
website point out specific things she did
-Students will have time to read the CNN article
and take notes on the worksheet
-The class will come back together to discuss the
.worksheets and answer this question: what would
you vote for these people if you were members
of their parole board? They will explain why or
why not using the notes they took on the
worksheet .

of our justice system? Is it to rehabilitate or
punish? Is it both, and how do you decide which

-Is it really possible for people to completely
