memorial worship

Remembering Our Loved Ones

2012 has been a year in which we have witnessed more than a few deaths of church members, relatives and friends. Each year we pause in prayer and reflection, giving thanks for the lives of our loved ones and offering support to those who live with their loss. This service of remembering will take place on Sunday, November 4 at 10:30 AM. You are invited to participate in this memorial worship, inviting family members, neighbors and friends who may wish to come. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be offered following the service.

message from

OUR PASTOR
Recently we offered an evaluation form asking that it be filled out by members and regular friends of the church. I want to thank those who accepted the call to accomplish this task. Thirteen forms were returned. While this does not represent a high percentage of our participating crowd, the results may give us pause to think First things first. We received some complimentary comments. Expressions of faith, gratitude for the choir, and appreciation for the church were welcomed. The mood reflected in the comments and scoring were generally positive and hopeful for church growth. Scoring for each of the questions are listed here. Remember, the ratings are scaled one to ten, with ten representing the highest affirming value. 1. I feel that our church demonstrates hospitality to visitors: 9.4 2. I am confident that my pastor knows my concerns: 8.6 3. I feel connected to my church members: 8.5 4. Pastor preaches sermons on spiritual discipline & stewardship: 8.3 5. I can articulate the mission of my church: 7.8 6. I am using my gifts to build up the body of Christ: 7.6 7. I know how to use my Bible: 7.0 8. I am comfortable offering prayers: 6.8 9. I invite others to worship: 6.3 10. I am comfortable sharing my faith journey: 5.8 11. I participate in Bible Study: 4.3 How would you have responded to these questions? I suspect that anything marked seven or below are areas where we might focus attention in the coming year. I would direct your attention to number ten. What is your faith journey like? Where has it led you? What questions remain? How is your relationship with God? Pastor Randy

future bulk mailings

Union Courier
Our church leadership is constantly looking for more efficient and faithful ways of managing the resources that we have received. A number of factors have brought us to the conclusion that it would be prudent for us to cease bulk mailings of this monthly newsletter. As you may know, the cost of mailing is going up. We currently pay the Post Office a yearly fee to maintain our bulk mailing status, plus approximately $25 each month for that service. Secondly, we must send 200 identical pieces with each mailing, and we dont have that many names on our mailing list without padding it with non-essential addressees. This brings us to consider the waste of printing, paper, and time. It is our intention to cease bulk mailing the Courier in January 2013. However, you may still receive the church newsletter. We will print and copy the Courier for you to pick up at church. We will still mail the Courier to members and friends who are homebound, without any cost to them. Persons who are not currently participating in worship, and/or who live out of town, may still receive the Courier in the mail if that is your wish. If that is the case we ask that you notify us by phone, email, or snail mail. We also ask for a gift to offset the cost of mailing and suggest a target of $20 a year. Of course, the Courier will be posted on the church website at unionuccmoline.org in a PDF file that may be downloaded and printed for your convenience.

sharing worship space

New Church Moves to Union

The Union Congregation approved the request of local Togolese Christians to share the Union building for Sunday worship. The new group will meet for worship on Sundays at 1:00 PM. The covenant between the two parties shall read as follows:
The new congregation as good stewards in Christ shall offer a gift of $50 per week to the

Union Congregational United Church of Christ.

The new church shall have access to the building , including the nursery, worship space and

kitchen and any rooms needed for small groups (excluding the church offices and computer labunless by special arrangement).
The new church will supply their own supplies. The new church will provide normal clean up after each use of the building, and check to be

sure that lighting, water and heat/air conditioning are turned off, and that the building is locked.
Two sets of front door keys will be given to the new church. The keys are not to be repro-

duced without the knowledge and approval of Union Church.

Either party may end this agreement at any time. After a period of three months both parties to this agreement agree to evaluate the terms of

this covenant. It is our shared prayer that this association will be a blessing to both churches, bringing growth to the church and fostering new opportunities for ministry in the community.

Quad City Crop Walk

We thank Julie Bustard and Fred Siebenmann for representing Union Church in this years six mile Quad City CROP WALK. Together they set a new contribution record for Union Church $2,598. Their thanks go to our many church contributors, plus friends and relatives. It also helped that Freds 85th birthday brought in extra cash from his relatives from far and near. This means that we have gained another Golden Shoe award for Union Church! Thank you to all!
