E. GLENN HINSON LECTURE SERIES MONDAY MARCH 7, 2011 11:00AM - 7:00PM Thomas & King Conference Center Georgetown College Georgetown , KY $35 Registration Fee
for lectures and two meals

STEPHANIE A. PAULSELL TO DELIVER E. GLENN HINSON LECTURES ON MARCH 7,2011

Dr. Paulsells lectures will explore the Song of Songs as a resource for contemporary Christian spirituality that is attentive to the goodness of the body, cultivates a posture of devotion towards the world and others, and seeks intimacy with God. She will address the question: Can this once important devotional text for Christians be recovered as a devotional text in our day without a wholesale return to allegorical methods of interpretation? Dr. Stephanie Paulsell is the Amory Houghton Professor of the Practice of Ministry Studies at Harvard Divinity School. She is the author of Honoring the Body: Meditations on a Christian Practice and editor of The Scope of Our Art: The Vocation of the Theological Teacher. She received a Ph.D. in Religion and Literature from the U nive r sity of Chicago in 1993 and Dr. Stephanie Paulsell has taught at the University of Chicago Divinity School, Catholic Theological Union and Valparaiso University. She is an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and lives with her husband and daughter in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A special feature of this years lectureship will be a presentation of memoirs by Dr. Hinson (see below).

Reservations are required by March 1 Contact Debbie Moody at 502-863-8301

FROM THE PRESIDENT

The success of an institution, an organization, a company any one of these is determined by its people. The personnel at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky are superb. We have faculty who excel in their teaching and relating to students along with administrators and staff who commit to getting their work done effectively and efficiently. In a relatively small operation like ours, our personnel wear many hats. To list all of their tasks would literally fill this newsletter. I am grateful beyond what I can express for all BSK personnel and their contributions to the Seminary. Sometimes I am still amazed by what they accomplish even though I have witnessed it day after day, month after month, year after year. Full-time personnel, by their current year of service are: Glenda Simpson, Administrative Assistant (9th year) Dr. Dalen Jackson, Academic Dean and Professor of Biblical Studies (9th year) Dr. Wade Rowatt, Senior Professor of Pastoral Care (6 years part-time, 2nd full-time) Dr. Mark Medley, Associate Professor of Theology ( 4th year) Debbie Moody, Director, Admissions and Recruiting (4th year) Ellen Parks, Academic Secretary (4th year) Dr. John Inscore Essick, (3rd year) When you add our regular part-time personnel including a faithful and gifted group of Adjunct Faculty (see list below) to the full-time folks, you see a remarkable cadre of persons who create and sustain an environment that prepares students for life and ministry. Thanks be to God! Now in my tenth year at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky, I am grateful for this part of Gods work and for the privilege of serving alongside each one who works here. I assure you that this nine-year old Seminary is in a good place at Georgetown College. I bear witness to you that our commitment to Jesus Christ is at the center of all we do. I ask for your investment in the Seminary with your prayers, assistance in telling our story and financial gifts. Together we can make a huge difference in the lives of ministers of the Gospel, and as a result, in local churches, communities and the world for Christ. Part-time faculty/staff: Dr. Rick Landon (Adjunct in Spiritual Formation, Coordinator of Contextual Ministry), Dr. Bill Turner (Senior Lecturer, Preaching/Worship), Dr. Paul Redditt (Senior Lecturer, Old Testament), Dr. Steve Hadden (Assistant to the President) Current Adjunct faculty: Dr. David Adams (Christian Education), Dr. Dodie Huff-Fletcher (Church Spiritual Formation), Dr. Roy Fuller (World Religions), Dr. Frank Houston (Black Studies), Dr. Mark Johnson (Benediction) Other Adjunct Faculty since 2006-07: Dr. Robert Baker (Old Testament), Dr. Jack Birdwhistell (Baptist Heritage), Dr. Joel Drinkard (Archaeology), Dr. Bill Ellis (Christianity/Culture), Dr. E. Glenn Hinson (Senior Professor of Church History), Dr. Jim Holladay (Spiritual Formation), Dr. Sheila Klopfer (Theology), Dr. Vicki Lumpkin (Preaching/Worship), Dr. Loretta Reynolds (Preaching), Dr. Roger Ward (Christianity/Culture), Dr. Norman Wirzba (Christianity/Culture).

THREE BSK STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ACADEMY OF PREACHERS EVENT

On January 6-8, 2011 the Academy of Preachers held its second annual Festival of Young Preachers in Louisville, KY. One hundred twenty-six preachers between the ages of 14 and 28 participated as each one preached a 16 minute sermon. Baptist Seminary of Kentucky had three students who preached the Word of God with an emphasis on the Ten Commandments. They were Sara Clarke, Emily Hoff English and Roger Jasper. According to Dr. Greg Earwood and several other Seminary personnel present, all three of our students did an excellent job and were affirmed by each group who listened to them. Dr. Bill Turner, Senior Lecturer in Preaching at BSK, assisted Sara and Emily who recently completed his preaching course. Sara Clarke, a native of Louisville and Interim Youth Minister at Melbourne Heights Baptist (Louisville), is in her second year at BSK. She is a Cooperative Baptist Fellowship leadership scholar. Hailing from Missouri, Emily Hoff English is on track to complete her studies in Fall 2011. She serves on the Leadership Team at Pathway Church and Ministry Center in Lexington where she leads in worship and children's activities on Saturday evenings. This past year she married Andrew English.

The Academy of Preachers is the brainchild of Dr. Dwight Moody, who envisioned a way to help and encourage young preachers and oversees this marvelous project with funds from the Lilly Foundation. Well done, Sara, Emily, Roger, Dwight Moody, and our own Debbie Moody (Dwights sister) who helped with the planning!
