COACHING MODEL

RISE Coaching Model 2012, Sunita Chhibar, All Rights Reserved

RISE
REALIZE INTENT SUPPORT EMPOWERED
Client is the architect of his dream life and coach is an objective facilitator. A client approaches a coach to achieve desired heights in different arenas of life. The coach using the RISE coaching model successfully creates self-awareness, reframes perspectives, enthuses, energizes and empowers the client to rise above the ordinary and reach out for that coveted goal achievement. It is highly imperative for the coach to follow the ICF Code of Ethics and the ICF Core Competencies throughout the coaching sessions. Before entering the coaching relationship the coach must make the client aware of what coaching truly means and refrain from making any false claims and promises. Thereafter the coach must clarify the Coaching Agreement and Contracting about the style, duration, fee structure, number of coaching sessions with the client. The coach must enter the coaching relationship without any personal agenda and be totally non-judgmental, non-critical and non-suggestive. Following the simple four stages of the RISE model along with liberal sprinkling of genuine acknowledgement and appreciation at every stage, any coach will get the huge AHA moment from the client. The breakthroughs are tremendous and the client walks away empowered.

1st Stage:

REALIZE
In the first stage Coach explores the Clients present physical, mental and emotional being. Using the tools of Wheel of Life, Value Finder, Powerful Questions, Silence and Empathetic Listening, the coach realizes the clients present state of being. The coach understands and realizes the client's ultimate goal and ascertains the clients agenda per coaching session. Here the coach creates self-awareness within the client by offering a space of trust, confidentiality, peace, comfort, acknowledgement and respect. In this stage the client gets aware of his or her present being, current reality and values. It is useful to ask the following questions: 1. Let me know something about yourself? 2. What is it that you really want? 3. What will ascertain that you have got what you wanted? 4. What do you think is stopping you from getting what you really want?

2nd Stage:

INTENT
Realization of his or her present being causes the client to understand what beliefs, values and perceptions have been driving the pattern of his or her thoughts, words, feelings and actions. The coach enables the client to unlock the driver behind his or her actions and gain clarity of the intent. Using the tools of Strength Finder, Values Finder, Analogies, Visualization, Metaphors and Reframing Perspectives, the coach ignites the imaginative and intuitive qualities of the client enabling him or her to see brand new possibilities emerging in life. A coach creates a trusting space by balancing the need to support with the need to challenge the client. Using powerful questioning skills and empathetic listening, the coach creates awareness and strengthens the true intent of the client. The intent shines brightly and the goal appears achievable to the client. The coach can see a clear shift in the client's mental process and emotional intelligence. Coach can ask the following questions: 1. Visualize yourself 5 years from now? 2. What is it that you truly intend to achieve? 3. What will it take to achieve what you have visualized? 4. What will be your feelings when you achieve what you truly intend to achieve?

3rd Stage:

SUPPORT
In this stage the coach supports the client to focus on planning, creating appropriate support structures and designing action towards goal achievement. Here the coach focuses on the clients strengths and reinforces higher level of commitment and confidence. The coach may ask the client to share some past goal accomplishments which were achieved inspite of grave hurdles. This makes the client totally energized and looks at brand new options and possibilities with fresh enthusiasm and power. The coach supports the client to summarize whatever clarity has dawned upon the client. This helps the client remove the colored glasses of his or her experiences, attitudes, perspectives, beliefs and values and design a brand new life of his or her dreams. The coach clarifies the clients options and game plan to reach the desired goal by asking Why, What, How, When, Where about the client's action plan. The coach also facilitates the client into exploring potential barriers in the path of his action plan. This exploration empowers the client to deal with each and every eventuality. Client gets enthusiastic to play the game of life brilliantly with the action plan spelt out in detail. The coach successfully enables the client to be completely in synchronization with his or her passion and energy flow towards the ultimate goal. The coach may ask the following questions: 1. What are your options to achieve your desired goals? 2. On a scale of 1 to 10 what is your commitment and confidence level for walking on the path you are designing for yourself? 3. What is that first baby step you will take and when will you take that step? 4. Would you like any further support from me around this matter?

4th STAGE:

EMPOWERED
In this stage the coach emerges as the clients accountability partner. The client designs the action plan to achieve the goals and the coach walks with the client offering a rock like support. This keeps the client enthusiastic and encouraged to forge ahead with renewed energy. The coach subtly succeeds in making the client design the life of his dreams. The client realizes that life is a onetime journey with no rewinds no replay and mostly no u turns. It dawns upon the client that life is here and now, not there and then. The present moment starts shining with a gleam in the clients eyes and the client starts living every present moment with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Client walks away as a brand new entity feeling totally at peace, focused, grounded, centered and empowered. The coach may ask the questions like: 1. Would you like to send me an email keeping me informed about your journey towards goal achievement? 2. How will you use this enthusiasm and energy in your life henceforth? 3. How do you feel after having overpowered your hurdles and turning them into stepping stones to success and contentment? 4. Can you describe this feeling of empowerment and commitment? The coach using the Rise coaching model succeeds in enthusing, energizing and empowering the client. Though this is an ideal model which I have been using with all my clients, it is imperative for the coach to use his discretion.
