Chapter 1: About CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration extracts event data from the Event Manager and converts it into CA Spectrum events. This, in turn, raises CA Spectrum alarms on models in the SpectroSERVER topology. Event polling is enabled via the Administration Page for CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Configuration. The default polling interval is 60 seconds. As clear events are processed, corresponding CA Spectrum alarms are located and cleared automatically. Polling for Threshold and Incident events begins once synchronization has completed. The alarms can be viewed and administered from the OneClick Console.

Note: Changes to alarms in the OneClick Console, such as a user clearing an alarm, will transition the associated Performance Center Events status to Closed. Clearing a Performance Center-based alarm in the OneClick Console will transition the status of the associated Performance Center Event to Closed. For more information about managing alarms in the OneClick Console, see the Operator Guide. Each landscape in a CA Spectrum distributed environment has an event poller assigned to it. This event poller periodically connects to the Event Manager and extracts landscape-specific events which are converted into CA Spectrum alarm set or clear events asserted on models in the landscape.

Chapter 1: About CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration 7

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Version Requirements

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Version Requirements

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration (r9.2.1) requires the following versions: Required components: Performance Center: 6.1.158(+) Event Manager: 2.1.114(+)

Optional components (latest versions): NetVoyant ReporterAnalyzer SuperAgent

Model Synchronization Eligibility

CA Spectrum requires that one of the following sets of criteria be met for a model to be eligible for synchronization with Performance Center: Models derived from CA Spectrum model type Device that have: A valid IP address A Model_State (attribute 0x1007c) of Active Note: If Model_State is not Active, the models processing will be postponed until the next synchronization. Models derived from CA Spectrum model type Port that have: A parent device that has been synchronized A valid IfIndex value

All landscape models

Device Model Synchronization

For device model synchronization, CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration uses Model_Class (attribute 0x11ee8) to determine the Performance Center SubType of a device, in accordance with the following table information.

Model Class Router

SubType Router

Device Model Synchronization

Model Class Switch-Router Switch Workstation-Server

SubType Router Switches Workstations

For models whose Model_Class is not specified in the previous table, the default SubType of 'Other' is used.

Chapter 1: About CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration 9

Chapter 2: About CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Architecture

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration architecture has the following process flow: A single SpectroSERVER or Distributed SpectroSERVER (DSS) can be synchronized with Performance Center by specifying the OneClick web server as a Performance Center data source. Full synchronization occurs when the data source is first added to Performance Center. Important! Full synchronization should be run during non-business hours when possible. Incremental synchronization occurs every five minutes. Any models added or removed from the DSS are processed.

Each landscape in the DSS is defined as a Performance Center group. Devices and interfaces in the DSS are synchronized with Performance Center and added to the appropriate landscape group. OneClick polls Event Manager for events that are relevant to a specified landscape group. This polling happens every 60 seconds by default. Any retrieved events are then translated to CA Spectrum events which will generate/assert alarms against the appropriate model.

Chapter 3: Configuring CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration

To configure CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration, complete the following steps: 1. Configure CA Spectrum as a Data Source in the Performance Center (see page 13) 2. Enable CA Spectrum-Performance Center Event Polling (see page 14)

Configure CA Spectrum as a Data Source in the Performance Center

As part of setting up CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration, you must add CA Spectrum as a data source in Performance Center so that these components can share information. Follow these steps: 1. Launch the Performance Center console and click Admin. The Administration page opens. 2. Click Data Sources in the Settings section. The Data Source page opens. 3. Click New. The Add New Data Source page opens. 4. Select Spectrum Infrastructure Manager from the Source Type drop-down list. 5. Type the host name for OneClick in the Host Name field. 6. Type the port number for OneClick in the Port field. 7. Click Save. You have now added CA Spectrum as a data source and the synchronization process is initiated.

Enable CA Spectrum-Performance Center Event Polling

Enable CA Spectrum-Performance Center Event Polling

As part of the CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration, you must enable event polling and specify how often CA Spectrum will query Event Manager for events. This is done from the Integration Configuration page in the OneClick Administration pages. Note: Only the Threshold and Incident events will be retrieved by this polling. Follow these steps: 1. Click Administration in the OneClick home page. The Administration Pages open. 2. Click Performance Center Integration Configuration in the left panel. The Performance Center Integration Configuration page opens. 3. Enter the desired polling interval, in seconds, in the Event Polling Interval field. 4. Select the Enabled option in the Event Polling field. 5. Click Save. The event polling settings you configured take effect on the next poll cycle. Note: For more about the Performance Center Integration Configuration Page, see the Administrator Guide.

Chapter 4: CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Known Anomalies

CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration has the following known anomalies: If a device is modeled as a non-proxy model on more than one landscape, event processing behavior will be undefined. Some data sources do not support IPv6 addresses. Any device that CA Spectrum reports with an IPv6 primary address will not be mapped to devices reported by data sources that do not support IPv6 addresses. To correct the mapping, you can destroy the CA Spectrum model and rediscover it using an IPv4 address. After the next incremental synchronization, the model will be mapped properly. If a model is in maintenance mode in CA Spectrum when a Performance Center-based event is received, that event will not be processed by CA Spectrum, per normal maintenance mode behavior. If the Event Manager data source is removed, CA Spectrum may fall out of sync and not recover. If this occurs, it is recommended that CA Spectrum be removed and re-added as a data source once the Event Manager has been added back in.

More information: Remove CA Spectrum as a Data Source in the Performance Center (see page 19) Modifying Data Sources After CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration (see page 17)

Chapter 4: CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration Known Anomalies 15

Chapter 5: Modifying Data Sources After CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration

If you need to remove a data source in the Performance Center after CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration has been established (for example, during an upgrade), you must follow certain steps when adding it back for the CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration to synchronize correctly. Important! If the correct procedure is not followed, data between CA Spectrum and Performance Center may not synchronize correctly. Use the following guidelines when adding back a data source in Performance Center after CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration has already been configured: If CA Spectrum exists as a data source in Performance Center when you add back another data source, restart tomcat. If CA Spectrum does not exist as a data source in Performance Center, add any non-CA Spectrum data sources first and then add CA Spectrum as a data source.

Chapter 5: Modifying Data Sources After CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration 17

Chapter 6: Restoring the SpectroSERVER Database

To restore the SpectroSERVER database to a previous state after CA Spectrum-Performance Center Integration, complete the following steps. Important! If the following steps are not performed in the specified order, data between CA Spectrum and Performance Center may not synchronize correctly. Follow these steps: 1. Remove CA Spectrum as a data source in the Performance Center (see page 19). 2. Restore the SpectroSERVER database. Note: For information about restoring the SpectroSERVER database, see the Database Management Guide. 3. Restart the OneClick server. 4. Add CA Spectrum as a data source in the Performance Center (see page 13).

Remove CA Spectrum as a Data Source in the Performance Center

Remove CA Spectrum as a data source in the Performance Center as part of the process when restoring the SpectroSERVER database to a previous state. This process helps ensure correct synchronization between CA Spectrum and the Performance Center after the database has been restored. Follow these steps: 1. Launch the Performance Center console and click Admin. The Administration page opens. 2. Click Data Sources in the Settings section. The Data Source page opens.
