yarns, possibly flax linen, water, olive soap, bubble plastic, needles for needle felt and foam cushion. I use pre- felt to make the flowers, this is a piece of felt that is made with 2 layers of thin wool, roof tiles laid, first horizontally then vertically above, this 2 x 5 min walken. This you can just let it dry and use when needed.

Add about 2 layers merino wool, from wick. (take a wick in half and again another half portion). To this you can add some other colours wool yarn or explain your choice..

Make this part wet with warm water in which olive soap is dissolved and start gently felting until the fibres are interwoven.

Tutorial 3-D flower wet felt technique part 2 Now you cut squares out of your piece of different sizes.

Now cut different sizes, each 3 pieces per flower. What remains, you can always use as little bud..

Insert the needle with a centre with some yarn.

Now felt each part separately for 2 x 5 min. I use a baking roll with bubble plastic as a tool, but you can also use a reed mat in which, your work rolls. Always put plastic on the wool to protect it.

This time you felt the loose parts, 2 x 5 min. This is called walking, shuffle the roller up and down, away from you, to you. After 5 min unwrap everything, put the flower in the other direction than where you started and walk again. So once you walk your work horizontally, the other time vertically. This will prevent you work too shrink to much in just one direction. Between each direction every time the role is unwrapped, wet it with warm water and soap.

If you are satisfied with the shape of your parts, stop felting and cut the pieces into a flower shape.

Now take the 2 bottom pieces and connect the flowers only in the middle through needle felting.

It is done correctly you see on the back the wool fiber come out.

Tutorial 3-D flower wet felt technique part 2 Then you put the last part on it and repeat this.

Now go further by hand felting. (Approximately 5 min) Kneading, as it were, between the layers in put plastic to prevent the layers growing together.

Now remove the plastic between the layers and see if the flower layers are felted together, this is done by lift the upper layer and the rest comes along. When this is not good, it seems there is still a layer not entirely good, you felt a bit until it adheres. You now have a beautiful flower that is completely felted.

Felting is done. I put my flowers for 15 minutes into the dryer. This helps the flower even more strongly felted, the fibres close together even better. Put the flower in a protective bag.

When the flower comes out of the dryer it is still damp, now you can shape the flower the way you want. Because I want to have a rose, I twisted the flower with sewing thread.

Tutorial 3-D flower wet felt technique part 2 Let the yarn sit until the rose completely dried (takes a day). Because I wanted a nice round bottom I put my rose in a glass form put it away in a warm place.

After 1 day make the wires loose and your flower (s) is / are ready!
