ANCIENT SETTLEMENTS IN PHRAE

THE LOCATION OF SITES

Located on the entrance of Huay Maisong River. Size is approximately 47 acres.

The distance between Wiang Taep and Ton Phung is about 6-8km. The size is approximately 118 acres. Separate from Ton Phung for the purpose of trading? In 2006 (2549 B.E.), FAD found Chinese pottery produced in 17th-18th century.

Located on the side of Mae Kham Mi River In 1784 (2327 B.E), when the Prince of Yong City moved his troops to attack Bangkok, they stopped at Sob Yang and where is considered as the old city of Mae Kham Mi.

Located on the entrance of Kam Pong River and Mae Thang River. The size is approvximately 79-98 acres.

The existence of spiritual place nearby the site and old stories about the town. The modern town has been established beside the site. Correspond to development of the site and modern town? The bigger site is located on the Yom River, therefore, each town was linked by the river system which Muang Phrae functioned as a hub of the towns.

WHAT WE LEARN FROM THE SURVEY?

Many communities has been developed closely related with river. It is assumed that this environment has influenced on peoples lifestyle and belief. It is important to consider that modern development/rapid change of society is really beneficial for us? Some ancient settlements are now abandoned and turn into agricultural field because the land did not suit for inhabit or other reason. Whatever reasons behind, its decision gives an huge impact on future society. The emergence of connection among old memories and people through the survey.

FUTURE PLAN (TEMPORARY)

Organize an intensive field walk to find out detailed information and site boundary in March. Organize an Archaeology/Culture fair in the survey area. Encourage the participation of the residents.
