Features
The 2RU Device Controller includes the following features:
Provides a flexible Device Command, Control, and System/Device Configuration interface. Supports field upgrades. Is highly configurable providing the ability to add/activate drivers without going offline. Supports simulated operation. Supports broadcast device redundancy. Supports cloning configurations Sends and receives frame-accurate information across the Local Area Network (LAN) to and from remote client workstations.
IMPORTANT: This 2RU chassis Does Not support the RAID1 functionality available on the 4RU chassis.
Benefits
Harris rackmount computers are the foundation of our automation system. They are built with high specification components and are designed for, high reliability, ease of maintenance, and repeatability in component structures. The 2RU Device Controller offers the following benefits:
Increased performance and throughput levels, via more powerful processors Optional Port Configurations: Using Serial-8 Cards, the system is available in 8, 16, and 24 port configurations. Using Serial-16 Cards, the system is available in 16 and 32 port configurations.
Space efficient packaging in the form of a 2-RU chassis Outstanding reliability, availability and serviceability features: Standard dual, hot swappable power supplies Hard disk drive that is readily accessible and exchangeable via the front of the chassis Hot swappable chassis fans. Detailed front panel indicators of the status of the power supplies, fans, chassis temperature, and individual voltages. Adherence to all governmental and regulatory standards, via compliance with current, and most demanding, environmental specifications: This includes compliance with Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) (Combined WEEE/RoHS) requirements now mandated in Europe, and being adopted in other parts of the world. Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) 2002/95/EC mandates: Recycling of devices at end of life and the elimination or

reduction of a list of hazardous substances. This includes six key hazardous materials typically used in the manufacture of various types of electronic and electrical equipment: Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium (chromium VI or Cr6+), Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE Directive) 2002/96/EC sets collection, recycling and recovery targets for all types of electrical goods. The directive imposes the responsibility for the disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) on the manufacturers of such equipment. The companies are compelled to use the collected waste in an ecological-friendly manner, either by ecological disposal or by reuse/refurbishment of the collected WEEE. Under WEEE "Users of electrical and electronic equipment from private households should have the possibility of returning WEEE at least free of charge"
Configuration Options
An Device Controller supports serial devices in the following manner:
Up to 3 PC slots can be fitted with ADC 8-Port Serial cards, supporting up to 24 high speed serial ports. It is available in 8, 16 and 24 port configurations. Up to 2 PC slots can be fitted with ADC 16-Port Serial cards, supporting up to 32 high speed serial ports. It is available in 16 and 32 port configurations.
Note: Multiple Device Controllers may be used in specific installations to provide expanded serial device support and backup functionality.
GPI Outputs
All Harris automation systems provide support to control external devices via GPI. The Device Controller provides for enhanced capabilities to support higher GPI port count for all automation Harris automation systems. The chassis is limited to a single 8 in, 8 out GPI card.
