LOVELY PROFESSIONAL UNIVERSITY HOME WORK: 01 Name of the STUDENT: BAJRANG KUMAR Reg no.

-10903983 Course No: CSE412 Course Title: Software Project management.

PART A PROBLEM: In order to carry out usability testing for a new word processing package, the software has to be written and debugged. Instructions have to be available describing how the package is to be used. These have to be scrutinized in order to plan and design the test. People to be used the package in the test, will need to be selected. As part of the selection process they will have to complete a questionnaire giving details of their past experience, training and typing using word processing package. The selected users will carry out the required task using the word processing package. The task will be timed and any problem, the users encounter with the package will be noted. After the test, the users will complete another questionnaire about what they felt about the package. All the data from the test will be analyzed and the report containing recommendations for changes to the package will be drawn up. With reference to above problem discuss the following: 1. Discuss the main risks associated with this. Ans-

A risk is a possible future event that may affect your project either positively or negatively.

How to perform a risk review:

First, a risk review is a project team effort. While you may be a very good team/project leader, it is always better to have three or four heads working together. Here is a simple process to follow: 1. Generate a list of risks/problems that can impact your project 2. Assign a probability and impact rating 3. Prioritize the risks with those most serious at the beginning of your list 4. Develop strategies to minimize or eliminate the risks .

The Main Risks Of This Project:

1. Selection and training programs for the Tester might increase the total budget of the software bundle and hence it may violate the norms laid by the initial cost-benefit analysis. 2. Personnel shortfalls might affect the very goal of the debugging and testing. 3. Wrong functionalities might be added with huge bugs could have been identified. 4. By the time of product release, the product might become obsolete due to competitive business and changing technology. 5. Security problems related to user may arise. 6. Maintenance costs might go up in future than estimated due to any serious bug. 7. Questionnaire planning and designing might not lead any conclusion about the product.

2. Mention your choice and reason for the development

process

model.
Ans-

I prefer V- MODEL for this project due to following reasons: 1. Proactive defect tracking i.e defects r found at early stages even may be in the development phase before application is tested. 2. Avoids the downward flow of the defect 3. Reduces the cost for fixing the defect since defects will be found in early stages 4. It is a fast method 5. It is also called as verification and validation Model. 6. This means the verification and validation will be done side by side.

7. It emphasis the strict process flow to develop a quality product. 8. The errors occurred in any phase will be corrected in that phase itself. An important aspect of this model is that testing activities like planning, test designing happens well before coding. The advantage is that it saves ample amount of time and since the testing team is involved early on, they develop a very good understanding of the project at the very beginning.

3. Draw up the product break down structure. Ans-

Product Down Structure:A product breakdown structure is an effective tool that details the physical components of a particular product, or system, under consideration. The formal PBS comes in the form of a hierarchy. It begins with the final product at the top of the hierarchy followed by the sub-categorized elements of the product. The product breakdown structure is similar to the work breakdown structure (WBS). Like WBS, a product breakdown structure serves to reduce a complex project, or product, into manageable components. As a result, teams can obtain a clear understanding of a product, its components, and what is required to provide those components.

4.

Product flow diagram

Ans:-

Product Flow Diagram:The Product flow diagram is useful to show in what order the component products will be built. In situations where some of the component products will be developed in stages the flow diagram is particularly useful in illustrating this fact.

What does a well-formed Product Flow Diagram do: Shows the order in which component products should be built.

What can we use a well-formed Product Flow Diagram for: Eliminating unpleasant surprises and broken promises. Optimising the development of component products so that the solution can be put into production, possibly even before the complete project product is released. Identifying when component products can be sub-divided. Identifying which products should be developed in sequence and which can be developed in parallel.
