Pizza for lunch with ASIS&T! Celebrate Women in Technology!

ASIS&T Open Source Workshop 9 am 4 pm in AS 13 (Arts and Sciences building)


An Open Source workshop will be held on Friday from 9-4. The workshop will provides hands-on introduction to the concepts and practices of Open Source project, led by Luis Ibanez of Kitware (and pizza for lunch). Concepts include: how communities operate, how to participate, what open source is, and how to contribute to an open source project. (Scan the QR code posted on the flyer to register found on the CCI Blog). Registration is limited to 25 participants.

Steven Levy, guest speaker 4:15 & 8:00 in the Assembly Hall, Campus Center
Steven Levy, a technology journalist, will be speaking at Assembly Hall in the Campus Center on the Uptown Campus. At 4:15 p.m. there will be a reading and discussion and at 8:00 p.m. there will be another reading. Levy is the author of two books, available to read at the CCI Student Center, entitled Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution and In the Plex: How Google Thinks, Works, and Shapes Our Lives. This is a free event, open to the public!
This event is cosponsored by UAlbanys College of Computing and Information and the Writers Institute.

Want to help local families? Bring in a can of chicken soup, a coat, or box of cereal. You can drop off your donations at the CCI Student Center (LI 84), or at Draper Hall in the downtown campus.

Call for Volunteers


Volunteers are needed to participate in a study to learn about the effectiveness of information systems. The experiment takes three hours to complete and includes questionnaires and conducting searches. If you decide to participate in this study, your potential benefit will include learning about research in the information science filed and learning the use of information systems. You will also get a $30 check issued by University at Albany, State University of New York in several weeks after you complete the experiment. The experiment will be scheduled at a time convenient for you. You must be over 18 years old. You are expected to be fluent in English and have some web search experience to be eligible to participate in this study. The success of this study relies upon getting volunteer students, so your participation will be highly appreciated. The results of this study will be used to design a more effective information system.
