served his/her country is called a veteran. Thirty-five countries fought in World War I. They fought from 1914 to 1918. Canada fought in the war. On November 11, 1918, the countries stopped fighting. This meant that the war was over. Canadians were very happy to hear about the end of the war. No more soldiers would die in the war. The soldiers could come home. People went out into the streets and laughed and danced. They blew horns and whistles and rang bells. They sang songs. They thought that there would never be another war. Canada was in three more wars: World War II, the Korean War, and the Gulf War, as well as are Peacekeepers around the world. On Remembrance Day, there are special services around the country and the world. Canadians remember and honour all the veterans from all of the wars we have fought. Every November 11 at eleven o'clock in the morning, everyone stops whatever they are doing. People are silent for one minute. This minute is to remember all the soldiers who have died in wars and how we are thankful of those who fought for our freedom.
