Students will be able to perform the song Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in two parts using proper posture, tonguing, fingering, embouchures, and breath support to the best of their abilities 5. Students will be able to analyze their scores of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas and be able to identify potential trouble spots or challenges that could present themselves along the way 6. Students will be able to self-evaluate and score their performances of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas on a scale of 1 to 5 honestly, and strive to improve these scores if need be Materials: 1. Warm-Up Score 2. Jolly Old Saint Nicholas Score 3. Students Individual Brass Instruments (Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba) 4. Students Individual Mouthpieces 5. Instructors Individual Mouthpiece 6. Music Stands Procedures: 1. I will ask students to remove the mouthpieces from their instruments and to put their instruments to the side 2. I will ask students to say mmm-boo in order to form the proper embouchure and then have them hold their mouthpieces up to their mouths 3. I will then tell students to listen to me buzz a middle range note on my own mouthpiece for four long counts 4. One by one I will call on students and ask them to match the buzz that I created on my mouthpiece on their own mouthpieces, emphasizing that their breath support should be strong and that the note should be comfortably sustained and strong 5. I will then have students play through the song Warm-Up found in their method books and if need be, it can played through once more if there is trouble or difficulty 6. I will then have students look through the song Jolly Old Saint Nicholas found in their method books and I will ask students to identify any trouble spots found in either Part A or Part B and I will ask students to make themselves aware of these potential trouble spots while playing

Billy Huyler 7. I will then have students play Part A on their instruments while I conduct and then ask them to score their performances by holding up a finger representing their self score (from 1 to 5) 8. I will have students play through Part B on their instruments while I conduct and then ask them to score their performances by using the same method of scoring 9. I will split students up so that one group will play Part A and the other will play Part B and I will ask students to play through while I conduct 10. I will modify playing if need be so that the students might only play half of the song until they get the notes and then play the second half afterwards, rather than playing the whole song through 11. I will have students execute a final performance of the piece to the best of their abilities Assessment: 1. During the warm-up on the mouthpieces I will be able to hear students execute a buzz one by one, so that I can really analyze any individual difficulties 2. I will visually and aurally observe the students throughout the lesson, checking to see if students are using improper posture, tonguing, embouchure, instrument holds, and notes and rhythms, and to my best of my ability, I will fix these issues 3. Throughout the lesson, students will be self-evaluating their performances, which will help me get an even better grasp on how they are playing 4. At the end of the lesson, students will perform a final performance of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas in which I will visually and aurally observe if the students have learned and improved throughout the lesson, and making myself aware of any issues that need to be resolved and paid more attention for the next time we meet
