How to play 1NSANE online via GameSpy Arcade

This is what you need to have installed for online play: 1NSANE Patch 2 Download TRM 1 Mappack Download by MoverPrime / InsaneHeat.com GameSpy Arcade Download First step is to start GameSpy Arcade and register a new account or use your old one. When logged in to your account you need to click on GameSpy in the top left corner and then click on Options like shown below.

Click on Games (grey) and then open the More Games list just like on the picture. Search for Insane ( i not 1 ).

Unfortunately, GameSpy Arcade is not able to find your installation of 1NSANE on its own so you need to browse for your game path (e.g. C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Insane). Its essential to point it to the Game.exe (NOT Launcher.exe) so it will look like on the following picture. (Your installation path will certainly differ so dont get confused by the screenshot)

Now close GameSpy Arcade and open your file explorer (Windows key + E) and browse for full.cfg (usually C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\Services) Windows XP users can jump down to the 2nd part of this page (Open full.cfg.....). Windows Vista / Windows 7 users need to read the RED passage below the picture!

CAUTION: Users with Windows Vista / 7 need to disable the User Account Control (UAC) to be able to edit *.cfg files. The following link shows a few possibilities how to do it:
How to disable the User Account Control (UAC) feature for Windows Vista / Win 7? Furthermore, users with Vista should make sure they have applied Service Pack 2 and installed all Windows Updates.

Open full.cfg and search (Ctrl + F) for insane like shown on the screen below. Make sure you change lateentry=0 to lateentry=1. There you also have the possibilty to change your ingame nickname in case your prefered username on GameSpy is already in use by another person (keep the quotation marks).

Now save and close full.cfg and start GameSpy Arcade again.

On the left side you will find an 1NSANE button below My Games now.

By clicking you will be taken to the chat lobby with the players listed on the right side.

CRUCIAL INFORMATION: In the majority of cases the rooms (running games) are not being shown to the chat lobby. However, if you properly edited the full.cfg earlier you are now able to latejoin running games. The next two pages will explain how to add contacts and to join their rooms.

Next step is to click the GREEN DOT to open the playerspy list.

When the playerspy list is opened like shown below you will notice that it is empty, so just right-click on all players that are In Chat and add them to your playerspy list.

To join a race just click on Playing Insane (blue) below your contacts nickname.

ATTENTION: - If you latejoin a room and you dont get into the ingame lobby (car / skin choice) but into spectator mode whilst others are racing then wait until the round ends and everyone gets back to the ingame lobby. - I advise you of not using any downloaded custom cars or tracks other than included in the TRM 1 Mappack. Due to incompatibility between players not having the same content the game tends to result in crashing on everyone.

The next two steps are conditional! So decide yourself if they apply to you or not! If none of them applies you are ready to play 1NSANE!

- Firewall:
To play 1NSANE with a firewall protecting your PC you need to allow inbound and outbound traffic like on the following two pictures (showing the Windows XP Firewall).

(Im sorry but I have to use my German screenshots here because our Icelandic engine nerd didnt want to help with screenshots of his English operating system. )

These 3 checks have to be set to play 1NSANE online (to host & to join).

- Router:
These are the ports that 1NSANE needs to be opened but if you are new to opening ports on your router then you better have a look in the owners manual. The next page might also help you setting it up right.

(I was told that nowadays DirectX doesnt need a specific open port anymore, however, if you want to make 100% sure that you will be able to join and host properly I suggest you do open the DirectX port, too.)

To open the ports on your routers admin page look out for options like Port Forwarding or Virtual Server. Another alternative is to enable a function called DMZ which I do not recommend since it allows all traffic for the specific IP-address. On the strength of past experience it seems necessary here to explain how to find your local IP-address out. To do so just click on START, then RUN & type CMD, the dos-prompt will show up and you have to type IPCONFIG. The only line of importance is your IPaddress now, usually the last number is what you need to know for your routers admin page.

This screenshot shows how it should look like when all the ports have been opened. (Layout will differ since each router manufacturer has its own design)

Once you edited your router you are finally able to play 1NSANE online via GameSpy Arcade. Always feel free to ask your questions in the chat lobby!
