October 15, 2012 TO: PCES Principal PCES School Instructional Design Team FROM: PCES School Media

Specialist SUBJECT: Media Center Evaluation In evaluating the PCES Library Media Program using the Georgia DOE Self-Evaluation Rubric I would like to share my overall evaluation as well as highlight several areas in which I believe we have moved into the range of Exemplary performance. Student Achievement and Instruction The program presently functions at a proficient level. I collaborated with many teachers on standards instruction to include integrating information literacy standards. I also encourage collaboration among grade level teachers and cite the Georgia Standards Website as a helpful resource when planning instruction. Two target indicators are presently at an exemplary level. The library media center is a critical element in the schools reading program and student data is the basis for instructional design which supports student achievement. I have targeted collaborative planning as an area for which I have developed an action plan in order to meet the requirements for an exemplary program by the end of school year 2013 2014. I have included the action plan as an attachment to this memo. Staffing Our Library Media programs staffing is at an exemplary level. As the school library media specialist, my efforts throughout the day are all centered on the library media program. Our media paraprofessional is present in the media center throughout the day and performs all duties in support of the media center. Facilities, Access, and Resources Although the media center square footage only meets minimum requirements for a school of 625 students, the services provided by the media center are all at a proficient and above level. The media program sustains a wide variety of print and non-print resources including multiple software subscription to support student learning and instructional planning. The Online catalog is available throughout all school district facilities and many subscriptions are accessible for home use. Administrative Support All target indicators are at a proficient level. Staff Development I perceive I demonstrate proficient skills in the area of Staff Development.

Action Plan The library media program fosters critical thinking skills and independent inquiry so students can learn to choose reliable information and become proactive and thoughtful users of information and resources. The Library Media Specialist and classroom teacher collaborate using CCGPS and GPS to plan and teach the units of study. The library media program uses the AASL standards to help shape the learning of students in the school The media specialist will actively participate in CCGPS implementation meetings and grade level meetings, and provide input in instructional planning in order to facilitate instructional collaboration using CCGPS, GPS, and AASL performance standards.
