COURSE DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW: This course is designed to provide the students a background on the different principles, objectives and strategies of Alternative Learning System under the context of its forerunner, the Non-Formal Education of the Department of Education. It focuses on the social dimension that tackles the issues and concerns of the out-of-school youth and adult learners in terms of education and community capacitations. Such that, the students are also expected to conduct a community outreach on the different community learning centers, dilapidated urban and far-flung areas.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: 1. Understand the concept of community-based learning. 2. Understand the nature, scope, history, and legal basis of Alternative Learning System (nonformal education) 3. Identify the current social and educational conditions, trends and issues related to the out-ofschool youth and adult learners. 4. Acquire knowledge on the methods and strategies of teaching Non Formal education. 5. Acquire attitudes and values needed in dealing and handling Out-of-School Children and Youth (OSCY) and adults.
