In the sequence Dr Who we are fundamentally presented with two individuals who live oppositional worlds, which are separated by gender. Both of the genders are portrayed through different characters that have control of different power over each other. The stereotype is made clear when we see the male in the clip controlling the woman who is being completely empowered by him. The woman is presented to the audience as overwhelmed and she is shown to have no control with

the situation she is in.

At the beginning of the clip we see the woman being portrayed as apprehensive, frightened and an intimidated character that evidently has no way of being able to control the situation in which she has become a part of. At this point of the clip she is shown Looking scared and uncertainty is shown through her facial expressions and body movement. It emphasises the way that women express their emotions through circumstances where they have no authority. The idea that she is showing her emotions through her facial expressions and body movement indicates that she is terrified and daunted with the environment that shes in and she feels uncomfortable with the atmosphere. The camera is at a high angle, looking down on the girl which portrays her status as a defenceless, vulnerable young woman who is looked down on by everyone. However it also signifies the characters importance

towards the audience, she is the main character in this clip and the director has ensured that she is the main focus of everything. At the beginning of the scene we also see two men at the door, holding guns and the woman has no weapons, just herself this already introduces to us that the male gender rules the scene. The fact that the males are holding weapons, standing up tall also highlights the fact that they have extra power however she has to defend for herself and this could cause her to feel distressed. The male in this clip who we are first introduced has the most control over the situation and has a higher level in comparison to the woman. He shows this by walking towards the top of the stairs with a demanding, unsympathetic facial expression which demonstrations the self-confidence that he consumes. At this point of the scene the camera is at a lower angle which shows the woman looking up at the male. This again emphasises the fact that he has complete control over everyone who is standing below him. The male commands the woman to follow his duties which she has no choice but to follow them; this portrays the stereotypical message of men overshadowing women. This shows that men can have a stronger mentality in the sense of how to cope with situations. Throughout the scene the male gets the woman to get on her knees which symbolises the whole idea of him being seen as the king and everyone bowing down to him. The high angle in comparison to the low angles completely contrasts from the way the female is represented as she is shown as more respected and would be the type person who lacks independence and responsibility. The way the male is standing at a higher level, reinforces the significance of him and the amount of influence he has. The stairs in this clip are representational for how much higher the male is seen to be in the levels of authority. In conclusion, it is presenting the stereotypical ethics of which men are stronger then woman and woman are weak this divides the equivalence of the two genders. The message that the female character portrays to the audience is shown through her facial expressions and body language which also matches with the lack of speech. The two characters are the opposite of each other in this as he is repeatedly talking as the scene goes on. Eventually The female shows a dramatic change compared to the way her character was portrayed before... She eventually sticks up for herself and her confidence and independence increases. The tables finally turn and its her who suddenly becomes the one in control. Facts and beliefs were used by her to show her belittling him with her intelligence. The differences between the previous sides of the characters are that the male takes a step back and sits down as if he is now beginning to feel as if hes slowly losing his power. The woman shows the audience that she is now the one who has the authority over the situation and shows herself to have a high status then him. This goes against his rules and regulations and we find that the woman no longer decides to listen to him. The fact that the womans vocals also get louder tells us that the woman is now dominating the male. From the woman finally gaining control shows us that she is now the strong character of this situation and he is weak with lack of intelligence. In conclusion we have been presented with two new characters as their roles in the scene completely change to the opposites. As it comes to the end of the scene the woman has all the power and this shocks us as an audience as were not aware of this dramatic twist.
