Grooming Tomorrows Sports And Media Producition Professionals Today.

Mission Statement: Prepare, motivate and groom middle and high school students for professional careers in sports and media production.

Vision Statement: Phoenix Sports and Media Productions will serve as the na-

tional model for developing industry-leading journalism and television production professionals. The hub for journalism and youth sports activity, our organization will provide hundreds of Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area students with a solid foundation, to later experience successful and fulfilling careers.

Short Term Goals:

Train and develop middle and high school students in all aspects of television, magazine and online production Broadcast a bi-monthly, 30-minute sports show and weekly, 15-minute sports update segment Produce a quarterly sports magazine for citywide distribution and online Provide extensive coverage and exposure of amateur athletics in the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area Showcase thousands of amateur and professional athletes, events and organizations that promote sports and entertainment Master social media skills in a business environment

Long Term Goals:

Maintain a youth run television and magazine production facility Broadcast a daily 30-minute sports show Produce a monthly sports magazine for citywide distribution and online Secure scholarships for graduates at various universities and colleges across the country Identify internships and permanent job opportunities for student participants

Founder: Li Thompson has over 25 years of experience in the amateur and professional sports arena. She has mentored over 250 students, some of which now work in various positions across the sports industry spectrum. Her drive, passion and purpose to find the best in the students she serves, is surpassed only by her desire to watch them become more than they ever imagined.

While earning a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management from Howard University and a Master of Business Administration/Master of Sports Business Management from the University of Central Florida, Kara interned with NASCAR, Washington Wizards, and the Georgetown, Howard and Towson University Athletic Departments.

Roy earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Howard University and a Master of Science in Sports Management from Florida State University. Since graduation he has coached in the National Football League for eight years with the Batimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts. He is currently a safeties coach for the Colts.

Elena Bergeron

Elenas first internship with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission at RFK Stadium was followed by internships with the Washington Freedom, WUSA Sports and ESPN. Since earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Howard University, she has worked with ESPN the Magazine covering collegiate sports, the NFL, NBA and MLB. Having earned his Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from Howard University, Mike currently heads the Physical Education Department at St. Coletta of Greater Washington where he is credited with designing his own curriculum for over 300 students with special needs. Mike also volunteers countless hours with the Special Olympics of Washington, D.C.

Tiffany Cobb

Tiffany interned with the Washington Nationals, Comcast Sports Net and the Sports Department at WUSA/Channel 9 while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and a Master of Science in Sports Management from Howard University. In addition, Tiffany served as the manager of the football team for two years. While interning with the Washington Wizards, Nike and the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission, Kerhyl earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Howard University. She currently works in Portland, OR., as a Global Associate Brand Manager, Football for Nike.

LaKeysha Hill

Since earning a B.A. in Communications from Howard University and a M.A. in Human Resources from Towson University, LaKeysha has become a Human Capital Specialist for Baltimore City Public Schools. She also interned with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission in the Stadium Operations Department for three years. Kerwin earned his B.A. in Communications from American University and is now the Executive Producer at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina. Kerwin has also assisted in event operations on several projects to include the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association City Title Basketball and Turkey Bowl Football Championships.

Jiovan Thompson

Jiovan has interned with the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission at RFK Stadium, Washington Freedom, and Washington Nationals. While earning a B.S. in Sports Management from Kennesaw State University, he worked for J.P. Morgan Chase, the Washington Nationals, and KSU Sports Radio as a game announcer and statistician. Jiovan can also be credited with writing several sports articles for the official newspaper of KSU - The Sentinel.
