Notre Dame, IN 46556 Dear Dr. Dayle Seidenspinner-Nunez, As passionate, innovative, dedicated, and reflective language teaching professional, I have always been embracing the mission of cultivating life-long learners, thus maximizing the opportunities of ongoing personal enrichment for numerous language learners. I want to bring the same mission to the Chinese lecturer position at the University of Notre Dame. In my teaching experience at the Monterey Institute, I have worked with students of various levels to equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate and explore the popular Chinese social networking site Weibo, where they can access authentic materials of personal interest for both present and future study. As I provided one-on-one instruction on a regular basis, I successfully offered customized and constructive feedback to my students, which contributed to their continuous improvement. As I am expected to teach for the Custom Language Service Hybrid DistanceLearning Program next spring, I will still devote myself to providing tailored instruction to guarantee that lifetime learning be promoted. Moreover, I have substantial experience working as part of a team to collaboratively develop courses and build programs. For instance, I coordinated with the faculty in the Monterey Institute Summer Intensive Language Program to independently teach three level-appropriate classes on Weibo, which matched the goal of the program fluency component by reinforcing the learning of vocabulary and grammar in a communicative context. Additionally, I am an instructor as well as the academic coordinator for a growing ESL program, where I not only demonstrated my co-teaching ability but also my organizational leadership through training and supervising my fellow instructors and implementing outreach activities. Finally, I was lucky enough to get involved in over ten language programs, for example, assessing and teaching adult learners and collaborating with overseas colleagues in an online setting. Next March, I will be working for a Chinese for Professional Purposes Cross-Strait Immersive Module, which affords the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from both language and content experts. Last but not least, my remarkable educational background and language competence also give me the confidence to teach college-level Chinese. With a bachelors degree in Translation and Interpretation (Chinese-English), I will obtain my masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (specialization in Computer-Assisted Language Learning) by next May. By the time I graduate, I would love to enlighten and inspire more and more learners of Mandarin Chinese as a full-time Chinese lecturer.
