Kayla Hanover Comp 1-Dr.

Sherry In the explanation below, I describe how different parts of my Adam Sandler project I completed fit in with our course goals. I decided to focus on my packaging/synthesis portion of the project for the audience/purpose goal, on my top ten list for the language/conventions goal, on my FAQ-I sheets for the formulate/support arguments goal, on my magazine article for the print/non-print media goal, and on my research paper for the writing processes goal. A. Students will be able to compose for particular audiences and purposes. In this goal, I chose to focus on my packaging/synthesis. I directed my project towards Adam Sandler fans and the general public who are curious about his success tactics. I placed a colored version of Adam Sandlers production company logo on a black background to make it look appealing and welcoming. The homepage also contains a short description of Adam Sandlers life for people who are not very familiar with him. Throughout the project, I used language that can be understood by multiple intelligences since everybody in the general public are on different education levels. B. Students will be able to compose using language and conventions appropriate to genre. For this goal, I chose to focus on my top ten list. I used descriptive words and language to portray the atmosphere that the particular movie gave off for those who have not seen the movie. In the descriptions, I also expressed certain groups of people who would enjoy each movie. The movie descriptions were also written in a not-so-formal manner since my main audience is simply public internet viewers. C. Students will be able to read, select, and use evidence critically to formulate and support arguments. In this particular goal, I decided to focus on my FAQ-I sheets. Throughout the researching process I viewed many different sources to help me formulate a central argument for my project. As I read through each source, I picked out facts that seemed important or seemed open for discussion. For every fact, I elaborated on it and found other ways of looking at it. Once I had chosen the argument for my project, I conducted more research to support and validate my argument. D. Students will be able to interpret and compose in a variety of media and print/non-print genres. I very much love graphic design and the part of organizing everything on a page. My magazine article contained a large strip of blue at the top with a picture and large text to draw the reader in. I made sure that my headings were boldfaced and all of my supporting paragraphs lined up to make my magazine article pleasing to the eye. I did however struggle with the columns; it was very tedious to get the text on the correct sides of the page. Other than that, I was very pleased with the outcome. E. Students will be able to discuss and apply appropriate writing processes both individually and in collaborative contexts.

For this goal, I decided to use my research paper. I struggled throughout the majority of the writing process. My argument of the paper changed after every step of the professional genre. After I had received a lot of feedback from Dr. Sherry and my classmates on my first paragraph, I finally found a topic to write about. Writing is not my strongest point, so my final draft required a lot of changes in transitions between different ideas. Reflection: When Dr. Sherry told us in the very beginning of the course that we got to choose a topic to do a project on for an entire semester, I knew I needed to choose something that would entertain me. I decided Adam Sandler would be a great fit for me, since he is one of my favorite actors. I became curious as to how he has been so successful for so long. Throughout my extensive research, I discovered that a few popular movies are not going to keep someone in Hollywood. The length and successfulness of an actor truly depends on the choices they make. It also depends on their efforts and supplemental activities that keep their name in the spotlight. Fame and success is not handed to someone, it is achieved through hard work and sacrifice. Throughout the process of this project, I realized that writing is much more than essays and research papers. It is an important skill that is needed for everyday life. Different types of writing require different audiences; a research paper addresses a formal audience, and a magazine article addresses the general public. Reviewing models of the types of writing I was going to use for my project was helpful, but I dont think it should be required that we print all of them out. It was very tedious and hard to keep track of throughout the entire semester. I found that taking the professional genre slow was very helpful. It gave me plenty of time to choose the perfect topic to write about. This project taught me that you have to keep up with your work and you cannot get behind. I managed my time very well on this project- I even created a to-do list for things I needed to complete each day to make sure I didnt miss anything. Since I am aspiring to be a teacher in the future, I will have to take projects in to consideration. I am going to be a math teacher, so a project similar to this will probably not fit into my curriculum. However, perhaps a project on a specific topic will work? I have learned so much about my topic this semester. Learning about things and teaching yourself on your own truly helps you remember them better. Overall, this project was a good idea, but it was extremely overwhelming and stressful to complete because there was just so much to do at once. I did enjoy learning a lot of new things about acting and Adam Sandler!
