Don’t Let Your Children Be “Invisible”

In 2003, three young filmmakers traveled to
Africa in search of a story. What started out as
a filmmaking adventure transformed into much
more when these boys from Southern California
discovered a tragedy where children are both the
weapons and the victims.
After returning to the States, they created
the documentary “Invisible Children: Rough Cut,” a film that
exposes the devastating impact civil war has had in northern
Uganda, especially on the
“Invisible Children” who are
orphaned and often kidnapped
and forced to become soldiers
in a renegade army.
If you are a parent,
fortunately your children
live in a much safer world.

many children are becoming
invisible to their parents and

a parenting class developed by Focus on the Family. Based on the
most up-to-date research on parenting, this 12-week course will
cover appropriate discipline, dealing with strong-willed children,
adapting as your child grows older, and much more.
Participant workbook cost is $10. You can sign up for this
helpful study on the Care & Communication Card, at the table

Whether you are a new believer or a

Children’s Ministry staff. Our children’s programs provide qual-
ity care and learning for kids of all ages.
If your child has not already been enrolled in our Children’s
Ministry, a quick visit to the Children’s Ministry Registration
Station will provide you with temporary security tags and give us
the information we need to effectively minister to your child.
Infants & Preschool Children
Childcare and teaching are available during the 9:00 hour and 10:30 worship service
in the Nursery and Preschool Departments.
Kindergarten–4th Grade
During the 9:00 hour, K–4th graders meet in graded classroom groups for Bible
learning and fun.
K–2nd graders attend the first part of the 10:30 worship service with their families
and then are dismissed through the large black doors at the front of the auditorium
to attend their own age-appropriate children’s church, called KZ Church. Parents, we
encourage you to go with your children the first time they visit KZ Church.
3rd & 4th graders attend the worship service to listen and learn with their families.
Xtreme AM (5th & 6th Grade)
Our preteens meet in their own Xtreme spot, Room 205, at 9:00 for a time of Xtreme
learning, Xtreme prayer and Xtreme relationship-building, then join their families for
the 10:30 worship service.
Youth (Grade 7–12) & Adults
Groups for ADULTS and activities for YOUTH begin at 9:00AM. Stop by
the Welcome Center to find out about each of the groups and how to get there.

 MISSION ONE Reaching others for Jesus Christ
Dick & Char Griffiths
Mission Board: TEAM
Location: Wisconsin/Papua, Indonesia
What do they do? The Griffiths left for
Dutch New Guinea in 1956. Their
work included opening the Hatam
tribal ministry interior, building an
airstrip at Minyambou, reducing the language to writing, and
teaching simple Bible stories to primitive people bound in
superstition. God’s Spirit moved December 1962 in what is
called a fetish movement. The joy of the Gospel spread along
family lines and whole villages trusted Christ with great
desire to learn God’s Word and to be able to read it them-
selves. Dick’s main work has been translation, while Char’s
has been Hatam literacy—writing books, training teachers
and Bible training for women.
Prayer Requests:
• For God to complete this work project in 2008.
• For final decisions on size of print, illustrations, maps,
choice of color for Bible cover.
• For Simson to check proofs in Indonesia, for India paper im-
ported from Japan to be available, for the printing machines
to function smoothly.
Leroy & Debbie Zumack
Mission Board: Greater Europe Mission
Location: Lille, France
What do they do? The Zumacks
are church planters in an area
with a large population of
Muslims and young people.
Leroy is part of a pastoral team
and is responsible for pastoral
visits, preaching, leading prayer meetings, directing a house
church, prison chaplaincy, as well as developing a project for
starting a daughter church. The team uses English and run-
ning clubs as a means of outreach.
Prayer Requests:
• For missionaries to shed all obstacles that might impede the
advance of the Gospel.
• That God would invade the hearts of Europeans and bring
another wave of conversions, another reformation touching
all levels of society.
• That Christians would be renewed and follow the Lord in
whatever He asks.
• For laborers to be sent to gather in the harvest.

Dr. Bill Becknell
Mission Board: Agape Unlimited
Location: Moscow, Russia
What does he do? As a physician, Dr. Bill
serves with medical and lay people, forming
expedition teams that travel north to the
Arctic Tundra and Siberia. Teams supply
and distribute Agape health kits to the very poor and share
Christ with many who have never heard. Dr. Bill is the first
American to receive a Family Practice diploma from Russia.
The ministry has helped start 43 churches and the medical
staff has grown to 53.
Prayer Requests:
• For funds to remodel the Arctic Center for expedition pro-
grams this year.
• For upcoming mini medical expeditions in remote villages
(March, June, September).
• For medical and English programs every two weeks.
• For intensive training of the staff on discipleship.
Modern Day Slavery
Statistics on Child Slavery
By Operation Mobilization
• Information gathered by British char-
ity Christian Aid, reported by Reuters,
indicates that up to 10,000 children
aged 6–14 are enslaved in brothels in
Sri Lanka.
• There are no universally-accepted
figures for the number of bonded child laborers in India.
However, in the carpet industry alone, human rights organi-
zations estimate that there may be as many as 300,000 chil-
dren, many under conditions that amount to bonded labor.
• Human Rights Watch estimates that 40 million persons, in-
cluding 15 million children, are bonded laborers. The major-
ity of bonded laborers are Dalits, whose bondage is passed
from one generation to the next.
• 90% of 100,000 women in prostitution in Mumbai are inden-
tured slaves.
• Many Indian boys, some as young as four, are riders in
camel races in West Asia and the Gulf States, especially the
United Arab Emirates, or work as beggars during the Haj.
Girls and women end up either as domestic or sex workers.

Adult Bible Fellowship (ABFs)

Once you’ve joined us in worship, our Adult Bible Fellowships
are a great next step to get to know people and build on the foun-
dation of your faith. Our ABFs are generally segmented by age
and offer a wide range of studies focused on applying the Bible
to your daily life. Each ABF functions like a small church com-
munity with opportunities for developing relationships, caring for
each other, and special social activities.

Just Give Me Jesus
Data Entry Opportunities for Men or Women
Data entry volunteers (20-30) are needed Saturday, April 19th
following the Just Give Me Jesus Revival for 4-6 hours starting
at 5:30PM.

in must be keyed in to PCs and Macs Saturday night. Qualified
volunteers need to be accurate typists, male or female, of any
age group. If you’re ready to take on this important role, please

If typing isn’t your thing, we’ll also need volunteers a week or
two before to stuff envelopes and on Monday, the 21st, to attach
mailing labels.
Phone Captains Needed
Phone captains are needed to make follow up contacts with
Des Moines area churches. These calls will be made during
daytime hours in preparation for the April 18–19 Just Give Me
Jesus Revival with Anne Graham Lotz. Adopt a zip code and be
the point of contact for 11–35 churches for the next three months.

Praying People Needed
A wonderful way to be involved in the Just Give Me Jesus
revival is to become a counselor/prayer partner on Friday night,
April 18th. If you are willing to pray with a person who has just
trusted in Jesus for eternal life or someone who needs a kind ear
and prayerful heart, this is the place of service for you. There will
be mandatory training dates for this in either March or April. To

more. Tuck them away to fill your own shoe box next fall or bring
items to the Children’s Ministry office anytime.
Takin’ it Back to the Streets in 2008
We had such a great time last summer “Takin’ it to the
Streets” we thought we would start early with some local minis-
try work projects.
Saturday, February 23 | 9AM–2:30PM
We will be working with HOPE Ministries on a Service and
Mission Team. This involves a 2 hour work project, lunch at
HOPE Café and then visiting 6–8 tent camps in the woods along
the Des Moines River, delivering food and fellowship.
In March we hope to organize a work day at Agape Pregnancy
Center, 2550 Martin Luther King Jr. More details to come.

Crystal and baby are doing well. Cadin’s

become a man after God’s own heart.
