PUZZLING
During the next two weeks
WHY?
Importance Outside of School
IOS
Buying multiples of one product at the store. Baking cookies. Planning a sleepover.
PUZZLING
In an hour
You will have been able to apply the discussion skills of Reply, Reason, and Reflect by discussing, as a class, a puzzle problem that you have solved with their partner pair. You will use prompt discussion starter cards to engage in a full class discussion where you will verbally share your ideas, ask questions, and make comparisons.
Today
1. Finish Partner Puzzle Problem
WHY?
Some of you need time to finish working on your problem, use this time to do so. If you are already finished, it is important to review concepts you already learned or just recently learned to help make connections between old and new information.
2. Gallery Walk
WHY?
We get better in our own puzzling skills when we look at how other people solved the problem and compared it to how we solved it.
Knowing and being able to use the different ways to respond respectfully in conversation is the next step in being able to have a successful discussion.

Mr. Clark
Reflect: to compare and challenge ideas. Do you agree with how they solved the puzzle problem? Did you solve the puzzle in a completely different way?
Come on over to my center and learn how to respectfully compare and challenge ideas.

Identify and describe one of the discussion Rs that we learned about today. Give an example of something you could say during a math discussion using this R.
