Art and printmaking is not always about beauty. Just as we see the hotly contested political race or passage of a proposition, this exhibition presents artists that have taken a stand and the communicative deciding vote comes from the viewers reaction. Artists whose works will be represented include former CSU, Chico student Meghan Moyse, former artist in residence

An Apology is Due
Editorial by Patti Day-Miller In his recent editorial If you cant take the word of an ad salesman John Loewe, in The Oroville Mirror, targets a new victim, David Miller, owner of Great Ad-Ventures Publishing, Inc., publisher of a weekly paper The Digger, the annual Oroville business directory The Source, a semi-annual magazine 101 Things to Do in Butte County, the annual Oroville/ Gridley Visitors Guide and the annual Adventures magazine. This is the man he calls an ad salesman and questions a meaningful editorial in a classified advertising magazine? The Digger is much more than a classified publication and is certainly not a magazine. As Mr. Loewe well knows, Great Ad-Ventures Publishing does publish magazines, but The Digger is a weekly paper. I happen to know a great deal about David Miller, since Ive been married to him since 1985. At the time we met in the early 80s, he was establishing a Newspapers In Education program for the daily newspaper in my hometown of Columbus, Indiana, and I was the Reading/Language Arts Consultant for the school system. We worked together to provide a full-day of workshops for teachers and brought newspapers into the classroom as educational tools. Later, David became publisher of a twice-weekly newspaper in northern Indiana, working for that same Indiana newspaper group, where he wrote a good many editorials, during the same years Mr. Loewe was serving time behind bars. So, writing editorials is not a new thing for David Miller to be doing. Following his stint in the Army, & then college graduation in 1970, he has spent his entire career working for both daily and weekly newspapers. I dont know what in Mr. Loewes background qualifies him to be the publisher of a weekly newspaper or the author of editorials. Escrow closed on the Gymnastics Academy on August 20, 2010. Mr. Loewe published a copy of a June, 2009 $4 million appraisal of the facility (when the real estate market was still dropping) in the same editorial in which he says David Miller owes this community an apology for election tampering. He also asks why Butte Community Bank, just prior to accepting the loan, thought it was a good deal. That was actually a good question, especially since Butte Community Bank was the ONLY bank in Butte County to have to close its doors as a result of making bad loans during the bank/financial crisis. I suspect the answer was that the company, North Valley Land Services, who did the appraisal, couldnt find a comparable property in Oroville and relied upon an earlier appraisal based in some other community. When a company appraises a property for sale, they look for recently sold comparable properties in the same neighborhoodbetween 2007-2010, there werent any in Oroville. Everything written in the October 30 editorial published in The Digger was accurate. (We have access to the same files as Mr. Loewe.) When the only other offer to purchase that facility was for $2.5 million and still under negotiation and general manager John Buck shut those talks down and announced that FRRPD would purchase it for $3.4 million, it was indeed a bad deal and may yet bankrupt the district. Mr. Loewe works hard and provides an 8-page paper that has developed a following in Oroville. How many copies he prints is unknown because, unlike The Digger whose circulation is audited by the Circulation Verification Council and the United States Postal Service, The Mirror has no affiliation with a newspaper association and no audit has been performed. Perhaps because Mr. Loewe actually does the printing of his own paper, the day of the week the paper hits the street remains in flux. We felt, in the beginning, that Mr. Loewe was truly providing a community service and believe there are still worthy local event articles in his publication. However, his tendency toward sensationalism in his news reporting and his ongoing distortion and reputation besmirching of one person after another has turned The Mirror into the antithesis of what good journalism stands for. What started out as a plus for the Oroville community has become a misleading minus, we believe. As Alexander Solzhenitsyn asked rhetorically in an address given at Harvard University entitled A World Split Apart: How many hasty, immature, superficial and misleading judgments are expressed every day, confusing readers, without any verification? The press can both simulate public opinion and miseducate it. Yes, Mr. Loewe, an apology is due, but it is from you and not from David Miller.

Louis here...
How great is thisMom and Dad are home again! Boy, I tell you, I am sure they are gypsies, cause they never stay home for very long. Always on the go. Most times I get to go, but sometimes, not! Anyway things are back to normal now. Except I have to go to my room at night. Dont know why cant I stay in the living room at night? I promise I wont bother anyone. They just dont believe me. Anyway, a month has passed since they came home, and Mom is packing again! What the hey? Again on the move. This time my stuff is packed, too. Guess I am going, alsoroad trip! Off we went in the morning, our rst stop was McDonalds, Mom and Dad have breakfast; I stay in the car. No fun. But its not long before we head out on the road. I just go to sleep. Most of the scenery I have seen before, and its boring. I hate it when we pass the smelly place on the road. Lots of cattle, and they sure do smell! Whew, I hate that place. Anyway, we make our usual stop for gas, and I get to walk and potty. We stop at this place all the time. Other dogs must stop also, cause I smell a buffet of different smells. Off we go again. Gassed up Dad has his Snicker bar, and I get some water. I know the routine. Now Mom is driving, and Dad lets me sit on his lap and watch the road. I ride shotgun, whatever that means! After awhile, Dad puts me in the back, and I go to sleep again; so does he! We have arrived at my sister Kendels. Oh dear, she is on the couchMom said she had some kind of surgery on her knee. And she has a rat, or something that looks like one on her lap. What? I have been replaced? This thing barked at me. Guess rats dont bark, but I have seen tree rats bigger than that thing. She called it Jax. I call it a pain in the butt! Mom picked it up and said Hi to it. Boy is it small; it makes me look like a giant! It is not even 2 pounds. It, or Jax, is a Chihuahua. Still looks like a rat to me. Pointy nose, brown and tan and long tail. A RAT! This thing follows me around. It wants to play, but I am not sure what to do with this thing. Anyway, I head out to the yard, cause I have to potty. It follows me out; now what? I like privacy when I do my business, so I went around the back of the deck. It followed me again! Mom, get this thing away from me! Finally Kendel called him, and he returned to the deck. Boy, what a change at this house. At least I still get to sleep in my Moms room at night. In the morning when I get up, Mom takes me to the store to buy a newspaper. She loves to read the paper in the morning, part of her routine; so at Kendels we go get it in the mornings. I then get to go outside on the new deck and enjoy the morning. But now, this stupid little dog comes out and wants to play with me. Oh, good grief. My quiet mornings are now interrupted by this dog. He wants to run, chase me and stands on his hind legs and tries to box me with his paws. I just put my head down and send him ying across the room. Good thing his mom doesnt see it. She might worry. But he keeps coming back for more. Persistent little guy. I will have to train him. Do like that he gets 3 meals a day. When he has had enough, I nish it for him. I like that. Although I am not a big eater, if there is someone else there, I try to hog it all. Why do I do that? I may gain weight doing this. Three meals a day is not what I usually do. One a day with treats at noon is all I want, with the exception of my vanilla ice cream at night! Sometimes, I eat the ice cream rst, then my food. I much prefer dessert rst! Then I eat my dinner later. Mom thinks this is silly, but it works for me! Jax is really a character, he curls up on Kendels shoulder and buries his head in her neck to sleep, and if I want to play, he chases me and then I chase him. Really looks silly, but it works for us. The other day I was standing next to the couch, and Jax was on the couch next to his mom. He looked at me and then at the oor, and I guess he thought I was a step-stool. He stepped down on my back, took a few steps, then jumped down on the oor. My Mom and Dad and Kendel laughed very hard. I just stood there with a shocked look on my face. Me, a stepping stool? I need to have talk with this guy. We have to come to an agreement. During our visit, I got to go to visit my friend Rosie the wiener dog and Bonnie the English sheep dog. Bonnie plays with me, but Rosie just runs around by herself. They have a big yard, and I just love to run around there. Then another night, we went to visit with Charlie, Miss Daisy and Capt Jack. All three are crazy, but I like them. Then on to visit with my friends Harry and Linda. They also have a big yard. But most people dont have a view of the golf course like I do. Too bad, I think I have the best view of them all!
