INCLUSIVE MOBILITY MAPPING WORKSHOPS

utilizes the moving people, moving goods and moving minds paradigm espoused by Sustainable, Mobility Accessibility, Research & Transformation (SMART) Initiative of University of Michigan highlights the importance of gathering transportation leaders (public, private, formal and informal) using maps as a tool to identify the issues and opportunities for implementing connected innovations and system implementation in the sector. Eg. Quezon City Pilot Mapping Identification of areas eg. Walkable/Green Katipunan Operation Katipunan Ortigas CBD Mapping Ortigas Greenways, Carless Sunday NMT Mapping Bikeways promotion eg Marikina Bikeways, Pasig Road sharing initiative

SOME RESEARCH FINDINGS & INSIGHTS

The main transportation concern of the poor in Metro Manila is the cost of transportation, not its availability.

The main nonquantifiable costs entailed by the urban poor in the study areas are (i) safety, and (ii) exposure to pollution.

Informal transport hubs are quite extensive in places where there is high demand for public transport, especially in areas close to informal settlements, formal transportation hubs, and transfer hubs.
Emerging business model in the transport sector: e-vehicle (ebus, ejeep, etrike), NMT (bicycles, carless Sundays initiatives), ICT (android apps, txt a ride, etc) -Usually with support of international funding institution, an advocacy led by volunteers, hobbyists) -Only few have LGU support eg.Cities of Pasig and Marikina re NMT policy

INCLUSIVE MOBILITY MAPPING & WAY FORWARD

LGUs, NGOs, CBOs and private sector enterprises must have greater opportunities to play stronger roles in fostering inclusive mobility. International actors that foster standards and models are powerful in bringing market and policy enablers into play in Metro Manila. The overall policy environment in the Philippines is one of reform and conducive to launching critical initiatives like greenways development
