Artificial Intelligence Image Processing / Robotics Computer Architecture Search Engine / Internet Applications Digital Gold Currency Virtual Reality/Simulation

Dr. Ng Liang Shings research in Artificial Intelligence focus on the vertical integration of AI techniques from low level (image processing) to high level (natural language processing) as well as software engineering (application of AI techniques in software engineering). The AI techniques are applied directly in real world problems such as Robotics. However, solving problems in the real world requires simulation of the problems and solutions in Virtual Reality / Simulation systems.

Often, Virtual Reality / Simulation systems require High Performance Computer systems (HPC). In the field of Computer Architecture, Dr. Ng Liang Shings research covers application of HPC as well as investigation into novel computer architecture (specifically, a novel architecture called Processor-Memory Cell). The research involves using the current generation of HPC to simulate the next generation of HPC. The research is in collaboration with Pusat Teknologi Maklumat / Information Technology Centre of University of Malaya, making use of PTMs latest 128-node Linux cluster, 32-node Linux cluster and 32-node Windows cluster. The simulation of the real world problem includes financial, medical as well as history. This results in the research in Digital Gold Currency using Gold with electronic transactions as an alternative currency in the search of a solution to the global economic crisis. In such simulations, problems related to Search Engine and other Internet applications will be investigated.
