Directions: Choose a novel that you will enjoy and finish, and choose 1 of the following
options to demonstrate your thinking about the novel by February 10th. Students who turn
in their project 1 week earlier at a B grade level or high will receive 5 extra credit points.

Novel requirements- the novel must be 125 pages.

1. Movie Project~ Create a 5 minute movie of the most important scene in the book.
Write a 1 page double spaced page explaining the scene’s importance to the
development of the plot and a character.

2. Re-Write the Ending~Re-write the ending of your novel in 2 double spaced pages,
and write a 1-2 page double spaced explanation of the reasons your new ending
extends the novel’s themes and the better develops key characters.

3. Re-write a key scene~ Re-write a scene from the perspective of a different character
or an omniscient 3rd person narrator. Your 2 page double spaced should include
character development that closely maintains the culture and era of the original piece.
Then write a 1½ explanation of how changing this scene affects the development of a
key character as well as effect on the rest of the plot.

4. Compare the book and the movie: Write a 4-5 page paper that includes a 1-1/2 page
plot summary. In the next pages discuss the differences between the movie and the
book; how do the actors change the development of the characters. If scenes are
added or deleted discuss the effect of these changes on both the plot and the character
development. BEWARE: if there are no difference between the movie and the
book, you can only complete a third of the assignment and thus can only receive
one third of the points.

5. Discuss a different option with me.
