ESD Symbol
!
Plug-in units bearing the symbol shown in Figure 4, are equipped with components subject to electrostatic discharge. Adhere to the relevant safety provisions. When packing, unpacking, touching, pulling out, or plugging in plug-in units bearing the ESD symbol, it is essential to wear a grounding bracelet. This ensures that the plug-in units are not subject to electrostatic discharge. Under no circumstances should you touch the printed conductors or components of plug-in units. Take hold of plug-in units by the edge only. Once removed, place the plug-in units in the conductive plastic sleeves intended for them. Keep or dispatch them in the special boxes or transport cases bearing the ESD symbol. Treat defective plug-in units with the same degree of care as new ones in order to avoid further damage. Plug-in units in a closed and intact housing are protected in any case. European Norm EN 50082-1 provides information on the proper handling of components which are subject to electrostatic discharge.
1.6
Declaration of CE Conformity
g The CE Declaration of Conformity for the product is fulfilled only if all construction
and cabling is undertaken in accordance with the manual and the documentation listed therein, e.g. installation instructions, cabling lists, etc.
!
Deviations from the specifications or unstipulated changes during construction, e.g. the use of cable types with lower shielding values is a violation of the CE requirements. In such cases, the conformity declaration is invalidated and the manufacturer is recused from responsibility. All liability passes immediately to those persons undertaking any unauthorized deviations.

WEEE Requirements
All electrical and electronic products should be disposed of separately from the municipal waste stream via designated collection facilities appointed by the government or the local authorities. The correct disposal and separate collection of your old appliance will help prevent potential negative consequences for the environment and human health. It is a precondition for reuse and recycling of used electrical and electronic equipment. For more detailed information about disposal of your old appliance, please contact your Nokia Siemens Networks partner. The statements quoted above are only fully valid for equipment which is installed in the countries of the European Union and is covered by the directive 2002/96/EC. Countries outside the European Union may have other regulations regarding the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.

Overview
2 Overview
The shelf-based DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM) medium density (hiX 5630) or M600 provides a broadband interface for connection to the IP core network. The M600 can be installed in indoor racks (for example, in a central switching center or a collocation facility) or in outdoor shelters (FTTC). Shelter applications are only available on request. The M600 consists of a subrack with up to two central units (CXU_C), up to 8 interface units (IU) for xDSL/VoIP lines, a fan unit and a common interface unit (CIUG). No connections to splitter units are required for SHDSL lines. The ADSL/VDSL2 splitter units are installed in one or more splitter chassis-8 of the horizontal type with included surge protectors. The splitter units SPT-24-4B3T-C (ordering number S50028-Q2057A1) can only be equipped in the M600 above the IU_VDSL24. The splitter units provide access to narrowband services at the PSTN exchange. This document describes installation in an ETSI rack. For information about deploying an M600 subrack in an ANSI rack, refer to your project specific documentation. Line Capacity The maximum line capacity of an M600 is dependent on the equipment configuration, (see Table 1).

Rack Installation
Infrastructure The telecommunication equipment can be located in a central office or shelter. Each type of location is characterized by a typical technical infrastructure. Possible rack configurations are: rack row or back to back.
Additional components are needed to adapt the telecommunication equipment on the existing infrastructure. The technical infrastructure of a central office is characterized by: power supply 40.5 to 72.0 V (battery backup) indoor conditions (see environmental conditions in System Description SYD) short interconnections to other equipment

Overview
To install a rear panel on a 300 mm ETSI rack, you must use spacers (mounting angles) on the mounting flanges of the M600. These are normally factory installed.Possible rack deployments are shown in Figure 10 Rack Wiring, M600 (Example with IU_ADSL). The dimensions of the racks are shown in Table 3.
Rack Type (ETSI) 1) Height 2200 mm 600 mm Width 300 mm Depth
1) for the assembly two mounting angles are needed, see Figure 7.
Table 3
Rack Wiring Before mounting devices in a rack, plan ahead how to stack it. For ADSL, the preferred combination in a rack is one M600 and two splitter chassis-8 as a set, see Figure 10. Also for VDSL, you can use splitter chassis-8. In this case, the IU_VDSL24 can be combined together with the VDSL2 splitter unit (ordering number S50028-Q6000-A1) and the IU_VDSL24P can be combined together with a VDSL2 splitter unit for POTS (ordering number S50028-Q6001-A1 or S50028-Q6002-A1). The splitter units SPT-24-4B3T-C (ordering number S50028-Q2057-A1) can only be equipped in the M600 above the IU_VDSL24. For this case, the rack wiring for VDSL, NB- and BB lines in principle is represented in Figure 8. For ADSL, VDSL and VPLU72, the cables can also routed directly from the IU to the MDF, see Figure 9.

g Existing cabling from ADSL units to splitter units must not be exchanged if the ADSL
units are exchanged with SHDSL units. Use the existing cabling to splitter units. Exchange the splitter unit with a dummy splitter and reconnect existing cable connectors to the connectors of the dummy splitter. In this case you can later change ADSL units with SHDSL units in basic shelf. You only have to change the related splitter unit with a dummy splitter. So you can use the same cabling to the MDF. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Cut the cables to length. Attach the connectors to the cables. Label and mark the cables. Route and stow the cable in the rack. Install the cables in accordance with the project-specific documents. Refer to the connector BB-LINE on the IU_SHDSL plug-in unit. 6. Connect the cables to the main distribution frame (see project-specific documents). IU_SHDSL48 (S50028-Q2024-B1) with 69 pin connectors

Connector Assembly
6.1.1
g Please note that each bundle unit is made up of four single quad cables (unit 1 to 4,
see Table 35 and Table 36) and that there are turquoise and violet single wires in each quad cable. Make a note which of these individual wires belongs to which quad cable (by marking the individual wires, for example). Then attach the row C and row A wires. Remove the markings (if you have used such markings).

Fold back the inner side of the braided shield and the drain wire and cut the braided shield to a length of 7 1 mm, see Figure 26. Remove cable fillers and protection foils. Fix the folded-back braided shield with copper foil, see Figure 26. For the 72-pole connectors, cut the wires into a length of 90 mm. The single wires are attached to the single contacts in the insulating body of the IDC connector with the help of the IDC assembly tool (IDC hand tool product number 894-305), see Section 6.1.3 EPT Connectors with IDC Contacts. Begin with row A. Then attach the wires of the other two rows.
6.1.3
The following bars are for use with the IDC assembly tool:
Figure 36
Should the insulating body not be completely pressed into the bar it could be damaged by the assembly tool. Insert the bar equipped with the insulating body into the tool guide, see the Figure 37.

The handle must be pressed all the way to the back so that the stop moves back automatically. This ensures that the wire is correctly attached to the IDC contact. Once the wire is attached, manually push the bar into the next position. A spring loaded ball latch ensures precise positioning of the bar and the insulating body with respect to the puncher. Now attach all the other wires in this row. Remove the bar with the insulating body from the tool. Check whether all the single wires are correctly attached to the contacts and that there is no strain on the wires.
Mounting the connector Press both insulating bodies together. Place the lower part of the cable reduction together with the cable and the mounted insulating bodies in the lower part of the connector housing. Screw the cable clip and the stress resisting clip to the lower part of the cable reduction. Place the insulating bodies and the wires in the lower part of the connector housing in such a way that no wires can be trapped when the connector parts are screwed to-gether. Place the upper part of the cable reduction in the other part of the connector housing. Screw both parts of the connector housing together. nector parts are screwed together!

Fan Replacement
7 Fan Replacement
This section describes the Fan Replacement as a fan maintenance procedure. If a fan plug-in unit fails, you can replace it. You do not need to power down the subrack before you replace the plug-in unit.
Switching a fan unit is not normally service affecting. If the fan unit is out of service too long, the subrack will begin to overheat and begin to shut down subscriber plug-in units. This interrupts broadband service, but not narrowband service.
To replace a fan unit: 1. Remove the attachment screws of the fan unit.

2. Pull out the fan unit at both lock levers simultaneously and remove the fan unit. 3. Replace the old fan unit with the new fan unit. Push in the new fan unit, until it engages.
