Appendix 4 Work Plan for Nature-Based Recreation Enhancements

Based on the prioritization of the goals and objectives listed above, the following list of projects and tasks has been ordered in terms of short and long term completion timeframes. 1. Tasks 2005-06 Develop and install new information and wayfinding signs on the FEC Paddling Trail. Complete. Determine the need for additional camp sites and raised camp platforms on the FEC Paddling Trail. At this time I do not believe that there is a need for this. The whole creek corridor is open to primitive camping, and along the creek the areas suitable for camping vary greatly depending on water levels. When water levels get high enough that a raised platform would be necessary (near 7.0 feet at the Palmdale gauge, which is flood stage for the creek) the concessionaire may not provide livery service to Burnt Bridge or Ingrams Crossing. Plan, design, and permit all structures, facilities and interpretive materials for the Ft. Center Trail Project. Complete. Construct kiosks and install interpretive and informational signs at three area entrances. Complete except for no kiosks at Main Street Entrance. Develop area brochure with high quality map and information about available recreation opportunities. Complete, was recently updated. Design and permit boat ramp at Palmdale Campground. Complete. Determine the feasibility of creating two hiking loop trails and one connector trail on the area. This is a work in progress between local staff, Office of Public Access and Wildlife Viewing Services staff, and local Florida Trail Association chapters. 2. Tasks 2006-2007 Construct/install all remaining structures, facilities, interpretive signs for the Ft. Center Trail Project. Complete. Construct a new boat ramp at the Palmdale Campground. Complete. 3. Long Term Completion and Ongoing Tasks Construct loop trails with boardwalks and connector trails if determined appropriate and feasible. This is a work in progress between local staff, Office of Public Access and Wildlife Viewing Services staff, and local Florida Trail Association chapters. Develop additional campsites and construct raised camp platforms on the FEC Paddling Trail if determined appropriate and feasible. See response to Tasks 2005-06, item 2. Implement a monitoring strategy to assess resource impacts and institute corrective management actions if indicators begin to approach standards. Bi-annual monitoring of interpretive improvements conducted by OPAWVS staff. Collect and evaluate information about visitor use and satisfaction. Currently collect vehicle counter data, additional data was collected as part of a larger project by the University of Florida.
