Whilst we understand that some children are still anxious about you leaving them at morning drop-off, we strive

to develop independence in all children by asking parents to drop them at the classroom doors where possible. There are sufcient adults in each class to assist children. At the end of the day the gate will be reopened at 3.05pm. Children will not be released from their classroom until the teacher or a member of staff can see the adult responsible for collecting them. If you are delayed please contact the school as soon as possible to prevent your child from getting upset. We will keep them safely in school until your arrival. This also applies if your child is attending an after-school club.
Forgotten Items

School Security and

It is important that your children bring to school the items that they need for that day, e.g. PE kit, swimming kit, musical instrument, etc. if on occasions they have forgotten an essential item and you choose to deliver it to school please leave it in the ofce reception area for your child to collect. The governors are concerned by the number of phone calls that Mrs Stubbs is expected to make to parents when items are forgotten. This practice is unacceptable and is preventing Mrs Stubbs from undertaking her bursary role which ensures the smooth running of the school. Please help us to encourage the children to make sure they are fully prepared for the day ahead, as these calls will no longer be made.

Safeguarding Update
November 2012

Thanking you in anticipation of your co-operation in helping us to improve our security and safeguarding in the best interest of safety for your children.

In the interests of safety for the children in school, the governors of the school have requested that I pass on the following reminders and information regarding the safeguarding arrangements. I would be grateful if you could take the time to read this leaet, as there are important actions for all members of the school.

Adults in school

Money or permission slip returns, etc need to be posted in the red post box in the front lobby via the front door. Small envelopes are available if you do have one to hand. Alternatively, school money can be paid in through our internet service by visiting www.scopay.com/ashtonhayes. This is done at no extra cost to you and is a very convenient way to pay, as it minimises the handling of cheques and cash.
Childrens absence from school

The law requires that all members of staff undergo checks to ensure that they are safe to work with children. Other adults (such as parents and other volunteers) undergo risk assessments and checks to ensure their suitability. All adults working in school are required to wear an identity badge. This means that they have come into school through the school ofce and they have signed in. This is also a message to the children that they are a safe adult. In order for this security to be rigorous, it is a requirement that ALL adults come into school through the front door. When you drop your children off at the classroom, if you are helping in school, or wish to visit the school ofce, please DO NOT walk through the school to get to the ofce. The correct procedure is to come round the outside of the school and enter through the front door. This ensures the safety and security of the children and allows the school to keep a record of the number of adults on the premises. This fulls the schools obligation for the Health and Safety of all adults and children on the premises in the event of having to evacuate. The computer screen in the front lobby is the means to sign visitors in and out. All adults (staff and volunteers) will be challenged if they do not have a identication badge. The children have been told to alert a member of staff if any adult is seen without one.
School Ofce

It is a legal requirement, as Headteacher, to ensure that all children on our school roll are attending school each day. This is a duty I take very seriously. If your child is unwell, please contact the school as soon as possible; this should be done by telephone to 01244 981418. Please DO NOT do this by text or email, nor by passing a message through a sibling. If your child is absent from school and you have not contacted us, Mrs Stubbs has a duty delegated by me to contact you. This is done in the interests of safety for your child. If your child comes to school late (after 9.00am when the registers close) or needs to go home early, please use the computer screen in the front lobby to sign your child in or out. It is important as this complies with our safeguarding procedure.
School Security

The school ofce is open from 8.30am, it is a very busy time at the beginning and end of the school day. Please make any phone calls after this time, alternatively a voicemail can be left earlier. If you require a call to conrm your message has been received please indicate this in your voicemail. Email messages to the school ofce will be accessed from 8.30am and acknowledged upon request.

Mrs Salt opens the school gate at 8.35am to allow children and parents onto the school yard in time for the beginning of the school day. School cannot be held responsible for children on the premises before this time. This side gate will be locked at 8.55am, by which time all adults should have handed their children over to class teachers and made their exit through the same side gate.
