Stage 3 Learning Plan

. Learning Activities: 1. Journal Topic: Describe your favorite character. It can be from a book, tv show, or movie. 2. Have some students share their journal entries and then create a list as a class of categories used to describe those characters (physical traits, personality traits, etc) 3. Have students fill in closed notes while listening/watching the powerpoint podcast about characters and characterization. 4. Read the picture book Thunder Rose to the class while students fill out a characterization graphic organizer on Thunder Rose. Let pairs of students discuss the graphic organizer and then fill out together as a class. 5. Put students into groups of 3-4 with their own picture book. Groups will fill out the graphic organizer on one of the characters in their book. They will write a paragraph describing their character using the graphic organizer they filled out. 6. Students will create their own dynamic character to be in a short story they will create later on in the unit. First, students will go to bubbl.us to create their own character web and print it out. They will also draw a picture of their characterthey can do this online or free hand (up to the student and what he/she is comfortable with) 7. They will have a rubric to follow to make sure they have a fully developed character.

They will fill out their own rubric once they have created their character to make sure they have everything needed. Students will write a paragraph explaining why their character is complete.
