NEVADA STATE COLLEGE TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM LESSON PLAN FORMAT

Description of Classroom:
Geometry class. Majority of students are sophomores, along with few freshman,juniors and a senior. Students' age range from 14-18. Classroom consists of mixed-gender students. Students will remain in their normal classroom setting until the start of their activity where they will then partner up to complete the activity.

Background:
This lesson will be taught over a period of one day. The angle measurements lesson will conclude Unit 1.

Content Objective(s):
Teacher will instruct students on how to measure and construct angles using a protractor.

Language Objective(s):
Students will be able to construct angles and measure them using a protractor and given measurements.Teacher will observe and examine the constructions after completion of this activity.

Nevada Standards:
G.CO.12 - Create formal geometric constructions; measure and construct angles using a variety of tools and methods (protractor and straightedge).

Key Vocabulary:

Teaching Strategies:
Direct Instruction Active Learning Collaborative/Cooperative Learning

Warm Up Activity:
Students will begin the day by doing their "Do Now" question in their notebook. --Angle ABC and angle CBD are complementary. If angle ABC measures 52 degrees, what is the measurement of angle CBD?

Lesson Sequence:
Teacher will begin daily lesson by reviewing the Do Now question. This will be followed by approximately 8-10 minutes of direct instruction and example questions. Next, the students will partner up with a classmate and begin their activity on measuring and constructing angles. Upon completion of activity, teacher will then discuss with students the steps and procedures they took in order to complete the assignment.

Accommodations:
There are approximately 4 students who do not speak English. In order to accommodate these students, their peers translate for them. Teacher continuously asks students if there are any questions, if lesson needs to slow down/ speed up. Makes sure everyone understands completely before progressing in the lesson.

Supplementary Materials:
Students will be given paper to complete assignment on, as well as a protractor in order to measure and construct accurate angles.

Review/Assessment:
In order to assess student learning, students will complete activity and teacher will observe and examine angle measurements and constructions to determine whether or not students have mastered this area of the unit.

Reflection:
Will be determined upon completion of lesson.
