Northwest Story Tellers: Native American Stories of Washington
Sunday, February 22, 2009 — 1 PM to 6 PM at the Longhouse Education and Cultural Center

Northwest Heritage Resources, in partnership with


Jack Straw Productions and the Longhouse Education
and Cultural Center, are pleased to host the finale
event for the Native American Stories of Washington
project. The project goal was to document and preserve
stories and legends as told by some of Washington
State’s important Native tradition bearers from the
Pacific Northwest. Invited story tellers include
Pauline Hillaire (Lummi), Curtis DuPuis (Chehalis),
Harvest Moon (Quinault), Virginia Beaver (Yakama),
Cecil Cheeka (Makah/Squaxin), Elaine Grinnell
Jamestown (S’Klallam), and Delbert Miller (Skokomish).
Free, public event.

Generations Rising: Native Youth Art Event


Saturday, February 28, 2009 — Noon to 6 PM at the Longhouse Education and Cultural Center

Generations Rising is an annual day-long event


focused on Native youth up to the age of 21. It will be
held on February 28 at the Longhouse Education and
Cultural Center from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Native youth are encouraged to bring a piece of their
artwork to put on display in an art exhibit. There will
be arts and crafts workshops, dinner and an awards
ceremony. Generations Rising is sponsored by the
Hazel Pete Institute of Chehalis Basketry and the
Longhouse.

MISSION: As a public service center of The Evergreen State College,


the Longhouse exists to provide service and hospitality to students,
the college and the surrounding Native communities. With a design
based in the Northwest Indigenous Nations’ philosophy of hospitality,
its primary functions are to provide classroom space and host cultural
ceremonies, conferences, performances, art exhibits and community
events. The primary work of the Longhouse as a public service
center is to promote indigenous arts and cultures.
