CANON 4: A LAWYER SHALL PARTICIPATE IN THE OMPROVEMENT OF THE LEGAL SYSTEM BY INITIATING OR SUPPORTING EFFORTS IN LAW REFORMS AND

IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. It is every lawyers duty to improve the legal system in the country. Not a matter of strict duty, nonetheless it flaws from a lawyers sense of public responsibility. Lawyers can contribute enhancement to the system by: a. Presenting position papers/ resolution for the introduction of pertinent bills in congress. b. Petition with IBP/other forums which have relevant influence to the system. c. Devise and maintain programs of CLE . (Lawyers associations) d. Create law centers and libraries for legal research(Lawyers associations) e. Write publications/books (experience practitioners) legal legal

CANON 5

A LAWYER SHALL KEEP ABREAST OF LEGAL DEVELOPMENTS, PARTICIPATE IN CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS, SUPPORT EFFORTS TO ACHIEVE HIGH STANDARDS IN LAW SCHOOLS AS WELL AS IN THE PRACTICAL TRAINING OF LAW STUDENTS AND ASSIST IN DISSEMINATING INFORMATION REGARDING THE LAW AND JURISPRUDENCE.

Objectives for the integration of the Bar a. Elevate the standards of the legal profession. b. Improve the admission of justices c. Enable the bar to discharge its public responsibility more effectively. In line with IBP objectives LAWYERS MUST KEEP THEMSELVES ABREAST OF LEGAL DEVELOPMENTS. They must:

a. Be acquainted with the newly promulgated laws; b. Decisions of the Supreme Court; c. Significant decisions of the Court of Appeals; d. EO,, administrative circulars, regulations and other rules promulgated by other competent authorities. Judges by the nature of their function must also keep abreast with laws, rulings and decisions of the Supreme Court. The term Legal Education is generally understood to mean the special training that goes to the making of a lawyer but it has long been recognize d that this education does not end with admission.
