Project Title: Web Design & Online Responsibility

Simple Objectives Learn online research skills Research digital citizenship concepts ! * online safety ! * copyright & fair usage Collaborate using Google Drive with New International School Thailand Develop greater understanding and employ concepts of design and communication through production of a website as outlined below Submit work for at classroom peers to assess based on rubric NOTE: The rubric is made available to the classes at the start of the unit. It will be used first as a self-assessment followed by a peer, then a teacher evaluation. Enduring Understandings: * Not all information is created equal * We are largely responsible for our own safety online * It is acceptable to use the work of others but we must follow certain guidelines. Essential Questions: * How can we be sure what we find online is true? * How can we protect ourselves & others online? * How can we protect the rights of the creators of content on the internet? * How can we effectively collaborate with people in other parts of the world?

GRASPS Task: Goals: Students will create an online tool to assist peer level users better understand digital citizenship and safety online Students will learn search engine and research skills. through the Google Ninja Program Students will become more adept at using online tools for sharing and collaboration Students will problem-solve and learn new skills by undertaking a project-based learning approach Role: Creators of online content to educate others Researcher: Learning and using effective online research and collaboration skills Collaborative publisher/editor of website Teacher assisting peers with new skills and with the co-creation of new skill sets while collaboratively learning and building on skills utilizing digital media (some examples may include: clip drives, digital cameras, laptops and internet based media) to successfully complete the unit of study Audience: Parents, peers, teacher Situation: Middle School students spend increasing amounts of time engaging with new media & the internet. This unit covers relevant issues in this context including online safety, managing ones digital footprint, fair usage principles and is open-ended in that students are free to expand their inquiries to whatever else collaborative groups think should be included.
