Overview

This standard is about being in charge of the jack up barge while it is being moved to the site where it will be working. It is about liaising with all those involved with responsibilities for the safe transit of the jack up barge to its operational site (port officials, pilots, tug captains etc) and ensuring that all relevant procedures are followed.

Who this standard is for This standard is relevant to barge masters and offshore installation managers in charge of non propelled barges. This standard is not relevant to masters of self propelled vessels who will be in possession of the appropriate masters certificate.

Performance criteria
You must be able to:

Manage Jack up barge entering and leaving port

follow port procedures when entering and leaving port identify and communicate with relevant port officials and pilots prepare and check jack up barge towing gear ensure tug and its equipment is suitable for towing jack up barge work with tug master and their crew to ensure safe passage into or out of port monitor and operate jack up barge systems used when entering and leaving port display correct navigation lights, day signals and markers rig ladders as requested by pilot comply with the organisations procedures and all relevant legal, safety and operating requirements relating to entering and leaving port, at all times

Manage Jack up barge transit from port to operational site and back P10 monitor & operate jack up barge systems and instruments P11 monitor environmental conditions P12 monitor the jack up barge stability, trim and watertight integrity and take any corrective action necessary P13 check the integrity of the deck load and equipment sea fastenings and take any corrective action necessary P14 liaise with tug master to manage risks to safe passage P15 make and communicate the decision to terminate transit to the operational site and return the jack up barge to port P16 liaise with tug master to station the jack up barge in the location required by the procedure document or method statement P17 confirm that the jack up barge is moored safely and securely P18 comply with the organisations procedures and all relevant legal, safety and operating requirements relating to transit to and from operational site
