I have decided to base my music magazine on the current upstanding American magazine called Billboard this magazine features music from the charts which is more often than not in the genre of pop. I like this magazine as it has a stylish look to it which comes across as professional and targeting a more mature audience that enjoy that type of music. The artists included are very well known including: -One Direction -Taylor Swift -Lana Del Ray -Christina Aguilera -Green Day -Alexandra Burke -The Rolling Stones -Adele etc. The Billboard began publishing music charts. Originally, there were only three genre-specific charts: Pop, Rhythm & Blues, and Country & Western. The magazine genre is pop however the content is a lot more sophisticated making the target audience a lot older. This way people interested in this kind of music who are older can read about their favourite artists without having to purchase the tacky little child magazines but a classy more up market one which includes insightful knowledge into the artists.

My own magazine Who will be in my magazine? My magazine will be similar to Billboard including the same genre of music that will be coming from the charts. Therefore this will include artists who are currently in the charts that I shall research, these include: -Olly Murs -Bruno Mars -Rihanna -Maroon 5 -Mcfly -Girls Aloud What will be in my magazine? My magazine will have a sophisticated look which has a specific house style which I will stick to. I will include splashes of bright colour so the whole magazine is more appealing to late teens and early twenties. It will still be fun although targeting an older audience because it will include gossip from the artists that everybody wants to know. I will have a charts page, so the reader knows whos at the top currently Gossip pages Interviews with the main artists A fashion section how to get the look of. I will also include a section of whos touring at the moment and where tickets are available I believe if I include all of this information into my magazine I will be catering for exactly what the target audience will want to read and find out about. I shall also include lots of exclusive pictures of the artists. What will I name it? The name of my music magazine would have to mirror what was included and the genre so the target audience know whether it is for them or not at a glance of the mast head. It would need to be something simple yet effective that sticks in your mind without being young and immature like some pop magazines have a tendency to do.

The names of magazines I like are: -Blitz -Limelight -Hits -Select These are all sharp and snappy which is ultimately very effective.

History of pop music After researching the history of pop I have found that the term pop music originally comes from an abbreviation of "popular" is a genre of popular music which originated in its modern form in the 1950s, deriving from rock and roll. The terms popular music and pop music are often used interchangeably, even though the former is a description of music which is popular (and can include any style), whilst the latter is a specific genre containing qualities of mass appeal. As a genre, pop music is very eclectic, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock and Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks. Music known as "pure pop" or such as power pop, features all elements including, using electric guitars, drums and bass for instrumentation; in the case of such music, the main goal is usually that of being pleasurable to listen to, rather than having much artistic depth like other genres. Pop music is generally thought of as a genre which is commercially recorded and desires to have a mass audience appeal, ultimately ending up in the charts.

Imagery associated with pop music

Here Rihanna is at an awards evening representing her pop music. Her fashion is typical of pop music as she is stylish, fashionable and in bright colours. Microphones are clearly associated music and the background being bright and colourful with bold patterns suggests the pop vibe.

Here is a worldwide famous, pop girl, band- Girls Aloud. Here they are wearing stylish clothes that show off their figures and make their target audience want to look like them as they are their inspiration. They manage to classy. Not only this, but they are all smiling which pop music usually seems to be about the smiles. Here they are subverting the pop stereotype as the girl is smashing the guitar showing rage therefore showing how pop can be versatile and have meanings behind songs too as well as being just catchy.

Here is Mick Jagger famous in the band The Rolling Stones. You can see just from this photo the mass of people and fans that have come to this event, clearly showing that the title of the genre is correct as popular music.
