4. When a series circuit consisting of a resistor and an inductor, is connected to a 230V

supply, a current of 2.875A flows through the circuit. The overall power factor of the
circuit is 0.8lagging. The voltage across the inductor is 164V. Find the resistance of the
resistor and resistance and reactance of the inductor.
5. A 200V,50Hz supply is connected to a 20Ω resistor in series with a choking coil. The
reading of the voltmeter across the resistor is 120V and across the coil is 144V. Calculate
the real and reactive power of the coil and the power factor of the circuit.
