The new $1.3 billion Yankee Stadium will feature more
than 50,000 seats, along with a variety of restaurants.

The new Yankee Stadium may have some elements from its historic predecessor, but the home of base-
ball’s most successful franchise will also be loaded with the latest technological advancements.

I f baseball were a religion, Yankee Stadium would be

considered the sport’s Vatican. The most successful
franchise in baseball history – with 26 World Series
victories – has called the Bronx home since 1923.
As of April 2009, however, a new era for the Yankees
will dawn when it opens its inaugural season in the new
Yankee Stadium, which has been under construction
across the street from the third-oldest Major League
Baseball stadium since 2006.
According to Turner Construction Co., the construction
manager on the project, the 1.5-million-square-foot stadium
will hold more than 50,000 seats and will maintain many
of the same iconic features the original

Old Dimensions, New Technology
Some of the familiar elements that will remain a part of
the new Yankee Stadium include the field dimensions –
including the left-handed-slugger-friendly outfield wall dis-
tances in right field. Also, soil from the original park will
be used on the playing surface of the new field and
Monument Park – the Yankees’ collection of monuments
and plaques that honors the franchise’s best players and
personnel – will have a home in new Yankee Stadium.
However, the $1.3 billion stadium will also have a num-
ber of amenities that sports fans across the country have
enjoyed with the onset of new ballparks over the last
