International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on 5 December 2012 that four 200 4 Athens Olympic medalists had their

medals taken away because the re-tested sam ples, which were stored for 8 years, proved positive. The four medalists include d shot put champion of Ukraine Yuriy Bilonog, women's shot putter of Russia Svet lana Krivelyova, discus thrower Irina Yatchenko of Belarus and Belarussian hamme r thrower Ivan Tsikhan. 3-times world champion Tsikhan also had to give away his bronze medal from the 2 008 Beijing Games. However, this decision was reversed at Court of Arbitration f or Sport (CAS) on the grounds that there were errors in laboratory procedures. IOC declared that the case which involved fifth athlete from Athens Games was pe nding. The four athletes who had to give their medals had tested positive for th e anabolic steroids. Around 100 samples from Athens Games were target tested eig ht years ago by IOC with the help of modern methods. IOC has a procedure of storing the samples for eight years in order to enable re -testing of newly found substances or those substances for which no tests were a vailable at that time. IOC also declared additionally that respective federation s had the responsibility to check whether medals were returned or not. Athens Olympics doping cases tally now stands at 31 after 26 positive tests as o f now. This is the maximum in any game. IOC declared that it would like the exte nsion of law of limitation from current 8 years. It was added by IOC that World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) was considering this law of limitation to extend to 10 years. ============== England Cricket team captain Alastair Cook on 6 December 2012 claimed his place among the cricketing greats when he set an England record for the most Test cent uries and became the youngest player in the long history of the game to pass 700 0 runs. The 27 years old Alastair Cook scored his 23rd Test hundred to leave England clo sing in on a rare series win in India. He has ahead of past legends Wally Hammond, Colin Cowdrey and Geoffrey Boycott. Team-mate Kevin Pietersen has also scored 22 tons. Alastair Cook made an unbeaten 136 to put England on 1 for 216 at stumps at Eden Gardens on 6 December 2012 only 100 runs behind India's first innings total of 316. ======================= After the recent suspension of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) from Internation al Olympic Committee (IOC), IOC assured the Indian athletes that this action was against IOA and not against them. IOC gave assurance to the athletes that they do not need to worry about their future prospects. IOC also declared that the de cision was to ensure improvisation in governance of sports in India. IOC additionally said that it was open for discussion with the Indian government or the IOA. It was confirmed by IOC that after suspension on 4 December 2012, n either the Indian government nor the IOA had opened up for dialogue with IOC. Th e main body of Olympic declared that it was ready for cleaning this hassle with anyone who was interested in doing so. With that accomplishme nt, Kobe Bryant joined the elite list of just 5 more players to reach that miles tone in the history of NBA. Other four of this elite segment are Kareem Abdul-Ja bbar (38387 points), Karl Malone (36928 points), Michael Jordan (32292) and Wilt Chamberlain (31419). He is the youngest player in NBA history to reach this landmark at the age of 34 years. Chamberlain was aged 35 when he achieved this milestone; Malone and Abdu l-Jabbar were 36 years of age while Jordan on the other hand was 38 years old to achieve this landmark. Bryant however was the fifth-fastest NBA player in context to the games played f or reaching this milestone. He achieved this milestone in 1179th match. Chamberl ain on the other hand achieved it in 941 games only. =========================== Air India emerged champion against Bharat Petroleum in the 23rd Lal Bahadur Shas tri hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium on 4 December 2012. This was second title of this season for Air India. Air India had already shared the MCC-Murugappa Cup with Indian Oil. Air India had an edge over Bharat Petrol eum because the team was full of expereinced players. Besides, there was also an advantage because Bharat Petroleum did not give its 100 percent which was evide nt when it wasted a lot of opportunities. For Bharat Petroleum this was another runner-up in the second event consecutively. Air India, in the meanwhile, won the cheque worth 2 lakh Rupees along with the t itle of the tournament. Amir Khan, the Bharat petroleum striker was decided as t he Best Player of the Tournament. V.S. Vinaya of Air India team, on the other ha nd won the title of Top Scorer of the Event with six goals. ======================== The International Olympic Committee (IOC) suspended the India Olympic Associatio n (IOA) on 4 December 2012 and eventually this might also lead to IOA ban from O lympic movement. IOA ban from Olympic would result in consequences such as: No funding from IOC No officials from India would be invited by IOC to any events such as Paralympic s and Olympics No India athlete would be allowed competing under India s flag; but could be permi tted competing under IOC flag Commonwealth Games Federation as well as The Olympic Council of Asia might also go with the trend which would lead to similar sanctions in case of Commonwealth Games as well as the Asian games IOC suspended IOA because India was following the Sports Code of government in t he IOA elections, which is against the Olympic Charter. It also mentioned that there should be no action from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ag ainst it. The acting chief of IOA made it clear that the Election Commission comprising of the retired judges of High Court did not find any violation of the rules in the elections which are scheduled to take place on 5 December 2012. The acting chie f made clear that none of the three codes- Sports Code, the Delhi High Court ord er or the Olympic Charter, were violated. Also, the chief mentioned that no nomi nations were rejected by Election Commission. In the letter, IOC cleared that it will be proposing disassociation of IOA in th e Executive Board Meeting to be held on 4-5 December 2012, in case IOA was proce eding with the elections under the Sports Code of the Government. However, IOA cleared that the Government was not interfering and that the electi on process was being conducted as per the IOA Constitution as well as Olympic Ch arter. ============================ The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) on 29 November 2012 appointed Luiz Fe lipe Scolari as the Coach of Brazilian Football team. Luiz replaced Mano Menezes who was sacked from his position in the third week of November 2012.

Luiz Felipe Scolari would be leading the team as its coach also during the 2014 FIFA World Cup scheduled to take place in Brazil. Before this in the 2002 FIFA W orld Cup held in South Korea and Japan, Luiz Felipe Scolari led the Brazilian si de as its coach, the team which was declared the winner of the tournament. His r ecent recruitment at the position of coach would give him a time of 18 months to guide the Brazilian Football Team to win the next World Cup at its home. He wou ld be guiding the team during the FIFA Confederations Cup that is scheduled to b e organized in June 2013 in Brazil. =============== Sebastian Vettel of Germany, the Red Bull driver became youngest triple champion in the history of Formula One on 25 November 2012 by finishing 6th behind Jenso n Button in the Brazilian Grand Prix. Vettel, 25 got himself involved in opening lap collision and made very little damage to his Red Bull car in the run in rai n-swept conditions at Interlagos circuit. The only title rival of Vettel was two -time champion Spaniard Fernnando Alonso who finished in the second position in his Ferrari. However he had pre-race 13 points deficit while Vettel won the titl e by merely three points. Vettel was the third driver in the history of Formula One to win three consecuti ve titles. Others who have done this before are Michael Schumacher and Argentine Juan Manuel Fangio. The Red Bull team of Vettel took the third constructors' ch ampionship in the sequence on 18 November 2012 in Texas and finished with 281 po ints while Alonso with 278 points. ================================ West Indies on 25 November 2012 won the second match of the test series against Bangladesh at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium and sealed the series with 2-0. Tino Best the West Indies paceman claimed his career best six-wicket haul to help the tea m win the match against the competitors, which was followed by the five wicket h aul in the first test against Dhaka. With this defeat Bangladesh faced its 65th defeat in the 75 tests played till da te, since the time it got recognition as aq test playing nations 12 years back. The list of defeat also includes 34 defeats by an innings. The Jamaican sprinter Bolt had won for defending his gold medals in the 100 and 200 meter races of the summers Olympic Games, he also won the same award previous ly in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Bolt managed to be ahead of United States hurdler Ari es Merritt and Kenyan runner David Rudisha to win the award. Allyson Felix managed to secure her Gold medal in the London Olympics in the 200 meter race. Before this she managed to settle down with the Silver in the Beiji ng Olympics in the year 2008. New Zealand shot putter Valerie Adams and British heptathlete Jessica Ennis were the other finalists of the Women award segment, w ho also were the gold medalists in London Olympics. In 2003, Bolt and Felix won the Rising Star awards for the most promising young athletes of the year. United States hurdler Aries Merritt was successful in winning the Inspiration Aw ard for his season and the award included a gold medal and a world record in the 110-meter hurdles. David Rudisha won the Performance of the Year award for his record-setting gold medal run in the 800 meters; he was the winner of the Athlet e of the Year in 2010. Keshorn Walcott, Javelin thrower of Trinidad and Anthoniq ue Strachan sprinter of Bahamas won the Rising Star awards. ===================

The Czech Republic on 18 November 2012 won the 100th Davis Cup 2012 finals, afte r defeating Spain by 3-2 in the finals. Radek Stepanek of Czech Republic outclas sed Nicolas Almagro of Spain with 6-4, 7-6 (0), 3-6, 6-3 in the 3 hours and 52 m inutes game, on the hard court of Prague s O2 Arena, during the final fifth rubber of the Davis Cup. Radek Stepanek has created a history by his name after winning the Davis Cup fin al as he became the first man ever aged 30 or above to win the decisive rubber i n 100 years. With this win, the Czech Republic lifted the Davis Cup for the first time after winning independence in 1993. Before this in the year 1980 it lifted the trophy under Czechoslovakia flag by the team led by Ivan Lendl. With this win the Czech Republic turned-up to be the first nation that won the Hopman Cup, Fed Cup and Davis Cup in one year. ================== World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) proposed that athletes found guilty of the serio us doping felonies will be suspended for 4 years from 2015. However no specific rules were made for banning the wrong-doers from Olympics. At present, the athletes who are found guilty of their first main doping felony are put on 2-year ban followed by a life ban in case of successive positive test s. WADA proposed in its second draft of2012 WADA code that there will be an introdu ction of longer ban for the offenses which include Human Growth Hormone (HGH), a nabolic steroids as well as trafficking and masking agents. This draft was revie wed from 17 November 2012 to 18 November 2012. The draft has doubled the suspension length for the offenders and has also widen ed anti-doing oragnisations scope to impose the lifetime bans. Nevertheless, in the draft there is no consideration to the former International Olympic Committee (IOC) rule in context with the Olympic participation. This ru le was ruled in refusal with WADA Code back in 2011 by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the highest sports court. Daimler, the German Luxury Carmaker purcha sed 40 percent stakes of the Mercedes Formula One Motor Racing Team owned by the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Aabar Investments in the third week of November 2012. With this purchase the teams full control went into the hands of Daimler. The amount of purchase of the 40 percent stake remained undisclosed. The deal of selling out the stakes of the formula 1 team now awaits regulatory a pproval. The Two companies Daimler and Aabar came together into motor racing in 2009 afte r they purchased Brawn GP, the then World Champion and re-launched it the next s eason with the name, Mercedes. At present Mercedes stands at fifth position in t he 12-team Formula One Standings. Team Mercedes has signed a three-year deal wit

Koushik (Under-16 Open) from Mysore won Silver Medal s in the championship. G.K. Monnisha (under-14) and Savant Riya (Under-12) secur ed Bronze at the Championship for India. R. Vaishali was successful in securing her position in under-12 girls honours. A rvindh Chithambaram lost gold after losing the tie-up with the American Troff Ka yden by a tie-break score at the end of the 11-round event. =========== International news agencies on 15 November 2012 boycotted the high-profile Test series between India and England which began with its first test in Ahmedabad to protest against the restrictions imposed by the BCCI on some photo agencies cov ering the tour. The major International agencies Thomson Reuters, Agence France-Presse and Assoc iated Press decided to suspend reports from the tour as well as pictures. Also, as per the release issued by the News Media Coalition (NMC), the press Associat ion, National Agency in the United Kingdom is not going to supply Photographs. The international news agencies are basically protesting against providing picto rial or text coverage of the tour. It is being seen that agencies distribute thousands of images as part of their e ditorial coverage to the enjoyment of fans, the curious and sponsors of teams, s uch as Nike and Sahara. Djokovic defeated World Number Two Roger Federer of Switzerland in stra ight sets, 7-6, 7-5, in the final match played early this morning. ======================= Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, the female Weightlifter from India won three bronze medal s for Indian Team on the opening day of the 19th Junior Women Asian Weightliftin g Championships in Yangon in Mynamar. To win and secure medals she lifted 168kg in the 48kg weight category -- one eac h in snatch (74kg), clean and jerk (94kg) and total (168kg). Mirabai, got selected for the event after lifting 163kg in the trials and had ma naged an additional five kg more during the main event. Mirabai was fifth in 48kg weight category in the last edition of the tournament in Pattaya (Thailand). She had earlier clinched gold in the dame category during the seventh National Y outh (Girls) Weightlifting Championships held at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh in year 2011. =================== The Andhra Pradesh High Court on 8 November 2012 lifted the life ban from playin g Cricket on Mohammad Azharuddin which was imposed by Board of Control for Crick et in India (BCCI) in Year 2000.

The life ban on Mohammad Azharuddin came after he was found involved in the bett ing scandal and the match-fixing episode as per the BCCI three-member committee, comprising its erstwhile president A C Muthaiah and two vice-presidents Kamal M orarka and K M Ram Prasad. Overturning the BCCI decision, the bench of Justice which was comprised of justi ces Ashutosh Mohanta and Krishna Mohan Reddy gave relief to Azharuddin allowing his appeal challenging the order of a local court. The bench of Justice agreed with the argument of Azharuddin s counsel K Ramakant R eddy that there is no evidence against him. Azharuddin made l match in June to the ban. Indian Olympic Association s Electoral College has also released a list for electi ons that is scheduled for 25 November and Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) was all owed to vote attend the meetings scheduled in the future for the elections, but would not be allowed to vote in the elections. The title was previously held by Jeev Milkha Singh, who broke the record in 2006 at the age of 34 with Jyoti Randhawa following him in the same year when he was also aged 34. As per the latest Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR), Bhullar had jumped 10 rank s on the back of a tied-18 finish in the $7 million WGC-HSBC Champions in China to take the 98th position in the world. Only Jeev Milkha Singh is ahead of Bhull ar currently, and is placed at 95 in the OWGR. The next best placed Indian is An irban Lahiri ranking 234 on the list. Gaganjeet Bhullar is currently in Singapore, where he is going to play the $6 mi llion Barclays Open. In Year 2012, Gaganjeet Bhullar had won the Yeangder Tournament Players Champion ship on 17 September 2012 which was followed by his win over the Venetian Macau Open in the month of October.
