TASK 8

The stereotypical Pop audience profile. Gender- Female Age- 8-13 year olds Social class- Working class

Interests- Fashion, dance music, friendly, being cute. Dress sense- latest clothes, bright fun clothing.

Why they listen to pop music- Because its upbeat and makes you feel good, the song lyrics are something you can relate to, and so they are able to dance around to it. How often- At least once every day as it makes them feel positive about themselves. What would they like to see in the magazine- Exclusive news and gossip, celebrity crushes, latest fashion trends, most listened to music, interviews with their favourite artists, and the upcoming concerts.

General background Name- Mary Potter Age- 16 Ethnicity- White British Currently lives in Solihull and doing her A levels, wants to go to University but unsure on what to do.

Feelings about music magazines She doesnt buy music magazines as there hasnt been a magazine that appealed to her, however she likes the look of Billboard magazine but this is an American magazine and is expensive in the UK. So she is looking for a magazine that appeals to her and is affordable. She enjoys listening to artists like Rihanna and Olly Murs, these artist are nearly always in the charts and they both bring out up-beat music you can dance to. Fashion Interested in the latest fashions in the fashion world and what celebritys wear. What she would like to see in a music magazine She would like to see both woman and male artists in her magazine but there to target the female audience. The magazine should be sophisticated with latest news, fashion trends and the latest gigs. How she uses music Mary attends a concert/ gig at least once a year as she enjoys watching her favourite artists on stage. She also listens to music every day as its enjoyable and gets her in a good mood for the day.

however if there was a magazine that grabbed her attention with her favourite artists she would defiantly consider buying the magazine!

Fashion Loves keeping up to date with the latest trends and often gets ideas from fashion magazines (this is an idea to have fashion inside my music magazine). What she would like to see in a music magazine Hannah said she would like a fun and sophisticated magazine that attracts to a wider target audience than just targeting one type of genre. She would also love if the magazine had fashion articles in there from the top celebrities. How she uses music Hannah likes to listen to music every day and when her favourite artists such as Rihanna are on tour she would be sure to be there.

Feelings about music magazines- She enjoys reading Billboard magazine however she doesnt get it often as it is expensive in the UK because it is a American magazine. Fashion- Sophia loves fashion but she likes to try different ways to style herself. (Very much like pop artists, Rihanna and Lady Gaga. etc.) she likes to wear skinny jeans, boots and what the celebrities are wearing! What she would like to see in a music magazine She would like to see her favourite artists Rihanna, Ed Sheeran and Lana Del Ray, with exclusive interviews and news about them. She would like to see the magazine bold, fun and sophisticated catching her attention. How she uses music

Sophia loves going to see pop music in concert; she has recently seen Justin Bieber, One Direction and Joe Brooks. She also loves listening to music everyday as it puts her into a positive mood, also she likes to dance around to the music.

My Focus Group
For this task I asked 3 girls questions based on my magazine about what they would like to see inside it. The 3 girls I asked are all fans of pop music and have the same interest in artists, they were; Hannah Sophia Mary I asked them 11 questions (see below) and wrote down their main responses:

Section 1 THE FRONT COVER (QUESTIONS 1-4)

1.Front cover what images would you like?


On the front cover there should be a main image dominating the whole page, this should be of a pop artist or band popular amongst the female audience. The main image should be striking and sophisticated making them the focal point. A good example of this says Sophia is Lana Del Ray.

1. What would like to see on the front cover e.g. sell lines?
Hannah - The sell lines should be short and snappy, grabbing my attention They also said how they would like to see fashion articles about the artists inside the magazine. They also would like if there were boy artists and bands in the magazine.

2. What colours would be appropriate?


The colour of the magazine should be bold but sophisticated these could be Black, Pink, Orange and purples. These colours are girly as that is that is the target audience.

3. What type of language would you expect?


The language should be casual as the magazine has to have a welcoming feel for audience so they feel comfortable as soon as they read the magazine.

SECTION 2 THE CONTENTS PAGE (QUESTIONS 5-8)

4. Contents page - what type of images would you like and how many?
The contents page should have at least 3 images as these advertise what is going on in the magazine. The images should fit nicely on the page but shouldnt be too large and overpowering or too small and UN-noticeable. Sophia- One of these images should be of the artist who is the main topic and article in the magazine.

5. What would you want to be contained within the magazine?


The magazine should offer a variety of things relating to pop music this could include, fashion, gigs latest news and latest gossip all on the current most popular artists and bands. All these will be categorised neatly and easy to find.

6. How much images and text would you expect?


On the contents page there should be a variety of both images and text, the text should be about the features of the magazine and also an editors note to welcome them into the magazine. The images used should relate to the other articles of the magazine.

7. What type of language?


The language will support the genre of the magazine. The language will be relaxed and causal but not to informal like a hip-hop magazine with words such as Fresh. But words such as Cool and Fab will appear in the Pop magazine, aiming to attract the target audience.

SECTION 3- THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ARTICLE (QUESTIONS 9-12)

8. Double page what choice of images would you want?


Mary- The double page spread should have one main image dominating one of the pages. The image should be the main focal point being big, bold and very fun with the style. The image of the artist or band should be strong, powerful but also fun reflecting there personae.

9. What would you prefer the article to be about?


The interview should be about a rising artist ready to break through. It should tell us about their background and how they have got to where they are today. Also it includes information about their favourite artists and who they look up to in the Pop world.

10.How would you expect the language to be?


The language will support and reflect the artist mentioned. If its an interview the language will be question and answer so that will be casual and Un-formal just like how it should be in a Pop magazine as it should feel welcoming for the reader.

11.Would you prefer more image or text based articles?


The double page spread should be a balance of text and image. Hannah- the double page spread should have one page mainly on the interview and one page dedicated for a picture of the artist. The image should be fun and eye catching and the interview easy to read and simple as the magazine doesnt want to bore the audience.
