Most farmer groups do not communicate and network with each other and missing out on important information Some farmers alienate themselves from government or organization supported projects, therefore dont take ownership Some farmers dont put much effort into practicing what they have being trained on Some farmer groups dont seek best practices from other groups, thereby limiting their skill and opportunities Average yield is between 5-10 tons/ha, and annual production of between 10 to 15,000 tons, which is far below the desired 30 to 50 tons/ha

BDS training has already been provided to some of the farmers Agronomy training has been provided to all of the farmers Possibilities of networking and partnerships with groups and organizations with similar interest has been initiated Village Community Banking Scheme, initiated by VSO/ZEST/ with the help of CORDAID/USAID, has now a revolving funds of over TSH.90,000000, covering fifty farmer groups and over 1000 members, from less than TSH.10,000000 in 2011

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS OF CASH PHASE ll Needs assessment to be conducted in identifying participating farmers, and if there is access to facilities Active farmers will be given priority to advance to the next phase Agronomist to sample soil and determine if sterilization or other soil treatment is required Provide seeds, identify and link farmer groups with reputable quality seed companies Agronomy, Business Development Services training and market place study tours to be conducted

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS OF CASH PHASE ll cont.. Farmers to establish partnerships and networking among each other Micro-Financing to be provided to qualified farmers, and funds must be applied towards agricultural activities Monitoring and Evaluation to be conducted and will continue during the greater part of the project Establishment of LOCALLY GROWN IN ZANZIBAR branding is possible, but depends on yield and production level Strengthen market access and help farmers sign contracts directly with hotels and or middlemen
