ENHANCED OIL RECOVERY (EOR) PROCESSES

THERMAL IN-SITU RECOVERY PROCESSES
STARS is the Worlds leading advanced process simulator for thermal in-situ heavy oil modelling. Processes which STARS is used to model include: Steam injection with or without pyrolysis reactions Low & high temperature oxidation associated with air injection Dispersed components In-situ formation of emulsions, asphaltene precipitation, and thermal desorption In addition, STARS has advanced wellbore capabilities for correctly modelling transient and segregated flow in the wellbore and In-Flow Control Devices (FCDs). Use the rigorous, iteratively coupled, finite-element 3D geomechanics module for modelling compaction, dilation behaviour, surface deformation effects, caprock failure, and shear effects.

CHEMICAL EOR
Use STARS to model the chemical processes that require the mechanistic modelling of chemical reactions in light and heavy oil reservoirs. Processes which STARS is used to model include: Foam injection processes, including foam surfactant injection for diversion, water shut-off and/or wettability alteration Alkaline-Surfactant-Polymer (ASP) flooding Phase property alterations Reduction of interfacial tension based on surfactant concentrations Minimize trapped oil and residual saturations Simulate 3-liquid phase behaviour and relative permeability effects

CO 2 EOR
Use GEM, an Equation-of-State (EoS) compositional simulator, to model the physics of asphaltene-related effects and geochemical reactions that can occur during CO 2 injection into the reservoir. GEM allows engineers to simulate: Phase changes of oil & CO 2 First contact & multiple contact miscibility determinations Solubility of CO 2 in the aqueous phase Viscosity alteration and Interfacial Tension (IFT) reductions Alteration of capillary numbers based on IFT changes Fluid mobility changes Geochemical reactions and mineralization

OPTIMIZATION
Leverage the workflow, including sensitivity analysis, uncertainty analysis, history matching and forecasting to: Increase reservoir Net Present Value (NPV) Increase confidence in forecasts Increase asset team effectiveness through automation Leverage the knowledge & skills of your engineers; focus on applying engineering judgement
