The Turning Points in The Battle of Little Round Top

Kaitlin Seiber and Arrianna Littlefield Junior Division Group Website

Thesis Little Round Top, the last battle of Gettysburg, was taken place in Adams County, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1863. General Robert E. Lee was planning an attack on the Union at Little Round Top, ignoring the idea General James Longstreet had about marching south, around Cemetery Hill, and then go east toward Washington D.C. Lee commanded many charges throughout the day, but failed, having the Union able to push them back. Union Colonel Joshua Chamberlain was told by his general to keep his position no matter what the cost, so he did. His army force though, was running out of ammo and some of the men didnt have any at all. Thats when Chamberlain decided to call a bayonet charge. They howled down the hill and caught the rebels off guard, having them surrender. The South had lost the last battle of Gettysburg. How We Chose Our Topic We chose our topic as the Battle of Little Round by research. We looked up plenty of things we couldve done our project on, but we when we had read some of the Little Round Top, we knew we had found the perfect topic. We had wanted something with adventure and we wanted something interesting, that would catch the readers eye. The Battle of Little Round Top was an awesome topic to choose. How We Conducted Our Research We started our research by reading a few books in a library, next we went on websites to understand more about the Battle of Little Round Top. Then we had gotten deeper into the process of the research and had started organizing what we had found. After that we started thinking of ideas about how to present our project and decided to do so by making our website. How We Selected Our Presentation Category and Created Our Project

We had selected our presentation category by thinking of what we could do with our presentations and deciding on how we could organize the project into groups. We had decided on doing a website because it was simple and we could add more details to it. We had created our project first by figuring out a website name, how many website pages wed have, and the names of the pages wed have on the website. Then, we had made sure all our information is fully gathered and organized so we could type everything out. Last, we had made sure there were no errors and then we could finally publish our website.

How Our Project Relates to the NHD Theme

Our project relates to the NHD theme by knowing that General Robert E. Lee decided to attack the Unions left flank, but Ulysses S. Grants army force was prepared. The Union was ordered to perform a bayonet charge against the Confederates when they least expected it. When the Union charged down the hill where the Confederates were, the Confederates were caught off guard, and were not prepared for the attack. Once they saw the Unions, a few decided to stay and fight while the others retreated which caused the Unions victory.
