Project 1: A Study for Magic


Project 1 will be a short and intense exercise, where you are asked to work in pairs to design a small study, inspired by magic and illusion. Occupying the field of tension between architecture and illusion, you will be asked to distort, deceive, control and manipulate space and exploit our understanding of the way that people perceive objects and spaces.

Semester 1

By elevating the grid plate with varying height on top of a light box, the illusion of an expanding space could be manipulated as a result of its shadows

Form Follows Body


Studying Marjan Collettis Nurbster Study Seat gave insight into how the structure should be informed by its function, most importantly the shape of the user. Therefore driving the form of the seats adn sleep area.

Monastic Life on Display


Due to the nature of the interlocking structure, the visual illusion would restrict the inhabitants vision to whatever is in front of him, but would be rather exposed from the exterior. The Monk would inspire his surrounding people by his buddhist qualities of life.

Project 2: A city of Magic


studying Venice from afar - city which holds sway as one of the most enchanting places in the world. The unit will explore the art and science of Italy from the Renaissance to the present day. We will consult history books, maps, photographs and postcards, trace forgotten events and remember overlooked or celebrate notorious spaces. We will research new techniques for interpreting Italy s hidden dimensions. Here we will begin to imagine new constructions indelibly inked into the fabric of the city, yet aiming to reshape its future.

San Marco Square is evidently the lowest point in Venice. which acts as a natural flood plain. However, its ffrequency was not as high as it is now.

Due to Rising tides and global warming, Venice becomes increasingly easy to flood. However, this often transforms the city to somewhat like a giant playground. Often unconventional and fun interaction occur in such a situation.

A Venice without its magic ...


Places in Venice which do not flood does not experience the magic that is Venice. The ability to change from a public square into a theatrical space according to its surrounding.
