SCENARIO You are an IT consultant working for the recently formed ''Lapis International Ltd, distributing fashion garments. One of your responsibilities is assisting with creation of the companys website. Your immediate task is to provide research information for use at a planning meeting next week. Assessment Objectives The Editor wants a comprehensive article on origin and history of the tie on the companys website.

1 Use a web-based engine to locate web pages that contain the appropriate information: a) The origin & the history of the tie. b) Add the accessed pages to your Favourites folder. c) Save the whole page in htm/html format into your own folder in the My Documents subdirectory. d) Print a copy of a page or pages containing the information. At the next meeting, you have decided to present the panel with information on the origin of the tie.

2 Retrieve the information now and have it ready for the meeting. a) Access the information at the address: http://www.tieguys.com/, b) Follow a link on the page to access their Neckwear History page. c) Bookmark the page. d) From the article The History of Neckties copy only the part of the text describing the origin of the tie and paste it into a word processing application, then save the file into your own subdirectory in the My Documents folder. e) Print a copy of the saved text.

You have been asked to recommend to your colleagues some other search engines, apart from the standard one you all normally use.

3 To satisfy their hunger for knowledge, use your favourite web-based engine to find addresses and short description of at least five other search engines. a) Mark the page using the applications bookmark facility (Favourites Folder). b) Save the whole page in mht format into your folder in My Documents subdirectory, making sure you give it a meaningful name. c) Print a copy of a page or pages containing the information. Some exclusive ties will be imported from Croatia. You are asked to provide a permanent link to a relevant website providing exchange rate between Sterling and Kuna.

4 Use a web-based search engine to find a relevant page. a) Find the present Kuna exchange rate against Sterling. b) Bookmark the page. c) Print the relevant information. The companys website will contain information on how to properly knot ties. You are asked to provide that information.

5 Using your Favourites folder, access the Tie Guys website. a) Find the pages containing the information on how to knot ties. b) Bookmark the page. c) Follow the links to access four different methods of knotting ties. d) Print only one method, with text and graphics. e) Save only the last method in html and all others in mht format. f) Copy only the text and graphical presentation of knotting ties, for all four methods, into the same document of your word processing application. g) Save the word processing document.
