Drafting ideas layout

I have decided that I quite like that layout of Billboard magazine. I think that I like the way the masthead is situated across the whole of the top 3 thirds. I also like the idea of the main image being large and the main feature. I think Id also like a medium close up of a main feature artist. However to differ from billboard magazine I dont like the idea of the head of the artist over the masthead, although it connotes importance I think it would be hard to put on a new magazine as you may be unable to identify the identity of the magazine as it wont yet have a signature housestyle. I think Id like a moderate grey background which will allow the text to I want my masthead lively to be big and stand out. bold and to cover the entirety of the top row of thirds to connote importance. I also want a quirky font such as showcard gothic I think this will reinforce the title lively. I think Id like quite a moderate colour such as white and then my main text in which advertises the main feature in bright colours which would advertise the main attraction further. Barcode As in Billboard magazine I want all of the Coverlines to be situated around my magazine. I think I am planning on using Coverlines such as: EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW Want the latest trends? Look hot this chirstmas! WOW! New one direction single I think I want my main coverline which will be my main featured artist in a bright colour such as electric pink to make it stand out against the other colours.

I want my main image to be a POP artist in which is a medium close up shot. I think this artist should be the main feature of my magazine this could be portrayed by the size of the image connoting the importance of it within the magazine.

Id also like a footer in which I can write a range of bands and artists in which will feature in my magazine. I could also write fashion within the footer to express the diversity of the magazine. I think writing the range of artists also promotes everything the magazine about immediately reinforcing the genre of POP.

I think that my main colour scheme will be quite simply backgrounds such as light grey with white text for the masthead yet use of bright colours such as pink and blue to advertise main elements.

CONTENTS PAGE
I like the layout of NME magazine. I think that by using a main image yet still the 3 column layout it makes it look professional. My main ideas for my contents page are one main image- similar to NME yet Id also like more images situated around the page showing more about whats inside the magazine. Id like to keep my lively masthead exactly the same and positioned in the same place following the housestyle. Id also like to follow the 3 column rules ensuring it looks profession Here Id again like my masthead lively following the housestyle from the cover page. To be big and bold and to cover the entirety of the top row of thirds. Also in the same font of showcard gothic Here Id like the main image which I think could be of a band to represent whats going to be in the magazine, I think I could use a long shot. Underneath Im going to put smaller pictures of less importance of other artists featured.

Here Id like the title contents in a slightly less bold font then the title maybe in just a black coloured font. As NME have done Id like to have a bands and artist index in which will show the variety of the magazine and explain the main artists and bands which will be featured throughout. Id like the bands in black with maybe a bright pink colour representing the page number they are on.

In these 3 boxes on the right Id like to do 3 sections to do with the content of the magazine for example: Fashion as a title then all the content to do with fashion in one colour and the page number in a different colour. Then the same idea for also news! And also interviews. I could do the same font and colour used for contents for the headings.

I think that for my contents page Id like a gradient fill background colour. Again using grey yet maybe a slightly different shade to distinguish from the cover page. I think that I should use grey and a lighter shade of grey for the gradient fill. I think that the quite dark backgrounds will enable the bright colours in which I am using for things such as the page numbers of the content to stand out more. I also think that if I use grey on each of my backgrounds it is following my housestyle and therefore enabling my magazine lively to have its own individual magazine allowing it to stand out against others. This would enable the readers to distinguish lively from other magazines.

Double page spread

I think Id like to base my double page spread upon the double page spread of Vibe magazine. I like the style of vibe magazine because I want one page as an image and the other with either an interview or background information- a story about the particular main featured artist.

Here I would like a pull quote from the text in a slightly larger font and again in a brighter colour such as blue or pink to the make the page look more interesting and add emphasis to the article.

On the right hand side of the page Id like a large medium close up of either an artist or a band. Id also like a pull quote featured from the article on the left I think this would be effective because it would be the first thing the readers would probably read and itd interest them. I want a plain white background for the artist and the quote in a bright colour such as electric pink or blue.

In the rest of the clear space Id like copy (text). I think this should consist of an interview of a background piece on an artist themselves. I have chosen to do this because many people from my questionnaire stated this was the type of thing they were looking for within my Pop magazine.

Here I would like a masthead in which relates to the article of the double page spread. For example I think when I choose what artist I want to do my article interview on I think that I could write their name following my housestyle for a title.

As within the contents and the cover page Id like a moderate grey in which will enable the bright colours in which I am using for things such as pull quotes to stand out more. I think that this is a good example of how I am creating my housestyle. I think that by following this housestyle it will allow my magazine to have a specific style to it as do other magazines such as billboard and vibe. I am also hoping for my housestyle to enable my magazine to look professional.
