TWO DAYS NATIONAL LEVEL PAPER PRESENTATION COMPETITION

ON

“GLOBAL WARMING AND RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES FOR

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT”

FOR UNDER GRADUATE/POST GRADUATE STUDENTS

Objectives
Availability of adequate energy is one of the key factor deciding economic growth of any country.
India’s economy is growing at 8 to 10% and is second largest economy in the world. To maintain
economic growth at 8 to 10% of the GDP capacity addition at the rate of 20 to 25% is essential. Out of
total installed capacity around 76% is coal based power plants. Considering the life of fossil fuels and
global warming, it is necessary to tap alternate energy sources for sustainable development and protect
environment. In near future it is necessary to switch to renewable energy and out of total installed
capacity share of renewable energy should increase at faster rate. Considering today’s scenario and future
energy requirement and life of fossil fuels, it is necessary to develop cost effective renewable energy
technologies. The objective of this National level seminar is to create awareness and to encourage and
motivate engineering youth to undertake renewable energy development as a mission and accelerate R &
D in this area and impact of global warming. The scope of this seminar is various renewable energy
technologies, issues, constraints, global warming and carbon trading. All renewable energy technologies
covering wind, solar photovoltaic, hydrogen, bio fuels, biomass gasifier, sea wave power etc including
hybrid electric vehicles will be covered.
In view of the upcoming developments in this field, the conference GWRE - 09 is arranged to
increase awareness about Global warming and renewable energy amongst the youth.
