What is modified tonnage and alternate tonnage.P52 T&P. when load line marking is already there on side shell then ans: when the tonnage mark is at or above the waterline, the ship is considered to have a modified tonnage. Alternate tonnage is calculated when the ship is passing through canals like suez and panama.the charges levied for the use of these canals are based upon their particular canal tonnage. tonnage mark scheme is devised to exempt from tonnage measurement the twin deck space between the uppermost cont deck and second deck......the position of the mark on the ship's side is given in the amendment to loadline rules dealing with tonnage mark scheme p:242 taylor and p128 reeds 1. Gunwale bar,The connection between the sheerstrake and strength deck can present a problem, and a rounded gunwale may be adopted to solve this problem where the plating is heavy. This is often the case over the midship portion of large tankers and bulk carriers. Butt welds are then employed to make connections rather than the less satisfactory fillet weld at the perpendicular connection of the vertical sheerstrake and horizontal strength deck stringer plate. The radius of a rounded gunwale must be adequate (not less than 15 times the thickness) and any welded guardrails and fairleads are kept off the radiused plate if possible. 5. This resolution amends chapter V of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), regulation 19-1 and binds all governments which have contracted to the IMO. The LRIT regulation will apply to the following ship types engaged on international voyages: All passenger ships including high-speed craft, Cargo ships, including high-speed craft of 300 gross tonnage and above, and Mobile offshore drilling units. These ships must report their position to their flag administration at least four times a day. Most vessels set their existing satellite communications systems to automatically make these reports. Other contracting governments may request information about vessels in which they have a legitimate interest under the regulation. The LRIT system consists of the already installed (generally) shipborne satellite communications equipment, communications service providers (CSPs), application service providers (ASPs), LRIT data centres, the LRIT data distribution plan and the International LRIT data exchange. 5. why accumulation pr test done on boiler. what is the lift of high & improved high lift safety valves? 6. material of R/B, main feature so that R/B is prefered than L/B? pg-91 t&p. 7. breathing apparatus vol stored -1200lts, time of working-30 mins, lenght of lifeline-30mtr, 3.5kN? 8. Main Parts of ODMCS An ODMCS consists essentially of four systems: 1. An Oil content meter: The oil content meter is used to analyze the content of oil in the water that is to be discharged overboard. This oil is expressed in parts per million (PPM). 2. A flow meter: The flow rate of the oily water to be discharged is measured at the discharge pipe. 3. A computing unit: A computing unit calculates the oil discharge in litres/nautical miles and the total quantity, along with date and time identification. 4. An overboard valve control system: The auto control valve is installed at the overboard so that it must close and stop the discharge when permissible limit has been reached. Working The oily mixture is pumped out to the sea through ODMCS by a pump. A sampler probe and a flow meter sensor is connected at the discharge pipe, before the overboard valve, to sense the oil content and the flow of mixture. The data provided by the two sensors are fed in a control unit wherein it is analysed and the discharge valve is controlled by the same. If the control unit senses a rise in the ppm and flow comparing to the permissible value, it will shut the overboard valve and open the recirculation valve which is connected to slop tank of the ship.
