POSITION: REPORTS TO: Product Manager Head of Engineering GRADE: E1 DIRECT REPORTS: 3-8

Area of Accountability: To lead a team of project and design engineers and execute multiple projects with focus on time and quality. To prepare and issue designs, drawings, specifications and part lists to support production programmes and new product development plans. Major Responsibilities: 1. Lead and execute multiple projects simultaneously, by defining and meeting the timelines and managing the resources effectively. 2. Joint definition of A&DVP with CAE and Test functions. 3. Define product concepts and decide product strategy. 4. Ensure adherence of engineering processes is followed. 5. Evolve /improvise design/engineering standards. 6. Contribute towards developing and managing program development budgets (including: Tooling, Prototypes, Testing Costs, Field Test Units, Homologation Units and Completing CERs) 7. To be the technical interface with customers and to ensure that all technical issues are resolved with customers 8. To Lead the Design Review, Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly processes 9. Define part numbers and assembly structures for input into Bills of Materials (BoMs) 10. Select, evaluate, and apply proprietary components for assemblies and systems 11. Liaise with CAE and Test functions to ensure that all necessary testing is undertaken. 12. Assist warranty department with evaluation of failures and ensure no known problems are carried over into new designs 13. Create and complete Product Change Requests (PCRs) and Engineering Change Notes (ECNs) 14. Liaise with internal departments and customers on technical issues 15. Initiate and maintain relationships with external suppliers on technical issues Performance Measures: Ability to interpret customer needs, define specifications and provide information within set deadlines Timely and accurate completion of complete projects Qualifications: Mechanical Engineering Graduate / Post Graduate 10-14 years of experience preferably within the automotive (truck/trailer) industry A good knowledge of castings, machining, fabrications and welding. Strong CAD and FEA skills (preferably Solidworks and Ansys) and ability to carry out complex engineering calculations Sound experience with GT&D Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills Ability to work within a project management environment Knowledge of Automotive & Commercial Vehicle market.
