The Advertising Project

Over the next week you will be responsible for creating an original advertisement based on the persuasive and propaganda techniques we have been studying. Your final product will be presented to the class for a project grade. Use the following steps to complete the project.

Step 1: Brainstorm Your Advertisement Be sure to include: o the target audience, o a slogan and/or logo o purpose of the ad. What are you trying to do/sell? o the argument type you will use and why you chose it - Where and how will you incorporate these techniques? o The 3 persuasion techniques you will use and why you chose them Where and how will you incorporate these techniques?

Step 2: Determine the purpose You must choose whether to create an original product that you will sell or a public service announcement about an issue that you think the public needs to be made aware of. ProductOption 1: Original Product- Invent a new product. Think about what your product looks like, sounds like, tastes, like, and feels like. What does it do? How is it useful? Identify the distinguishing characteristics of your product and then create an advertisement to sell it. This option must include an illustration or picture of your product, a logo and a slogan/catch phrase associated with your product. Your goal will be to get your audience to buy your product. AnnouncementOption 2: Public Service Announcement- Think of an issue or a policy/rule that the public needs to be more informed about. Determine what it is that people need to know about this issue. Perhaps you need to warn people about the dangers of breaking a law or the consequences associated with it. Then, create a short p.s.a. for the issue. This option must include a sponsoring foundation, a call for public action and a way for the interested people to get more information (ie: phone number, hotline, event location, etc.). Your goal will be to get your audience to make a donation to your cause. Step 3: Choose a medium Once you have selected what your purpose is, you need to select the medium that will best advertise your original product or p.s.a. Choose between a print ad., radio announcement or television commercial (See Back). Take some time to determine which format will work best for you and your ad. Keep in mind the necessary tools and time that are involved with each option. Be sure to include at least the following minimum requirements in any option you choose: : Minimum requirements for all advertisements: Incorporate at least 1 type of argument (pathos, ethos, or logos) 3 media persuasion/propaganda techniques in your advertisement (bandwagon, etc).
