The Company
SABB since 1925
Frydenb Sabb Motor AS was established in 1925 under the name of Damsgaard Motorfabrik. In 1971 the firm became a limited company, changing the name to Sabb Motor AS. In 2006 Sabb Motor AS became 100% owned by Frydenb Industri AS, and the name changed to Frydenb Sabb Motor AS. Over the years we have had a healthy turnover and steady growth. Today the we employ 35 people with a high level of knowledge, expertise and experience. Frydenb Sabb Motor AS operates as a total supplier of diesel engines and equipment, and coordinates service workshops for repair and maintenance.

After over 80 years of experience, Frydenb Sabb Motor AS has developed a high level of knowledge and expertise. Our personnel are specialized operators with technical skills for our diesel engines. The SABB brand name


Frydenb Sabb Motor AS has long experience in development, production, testing and service of diesel marine engines for Norwegian as well as foreign waters. Marinisation is a complicated process which calls for long experience. The result is the markets most reliable engines that meets the strict quality requirements SABB demands at all times. Approvals and Certification


The lifeboat engine is a vital part of any vessels safety system, and as such covered by the International Convention of Safety at Sea (SOLAS) and International Maritime Organization (IMO). All SABB Lifeboat Engines are built according to the latest regulations of SOLAS / IMO. Furthermore, our engines also conform to higher degree of safety to comply with various national specials, such as Nordic Lifeboat Standard and/or rules of any Classification Society. To get these type approvals, the prototype engines are tested according to: IMO Testing and Evaluation of Life-Saving Appliances and Arrangements. Resolution A.520 (13).

SABB Lister Engines


SABB Lister engines are based on core engines from Lister Petter Co.Ltd. in Great Britain. Lister Petter Co.Ltd. as a core engine manufacturer is one of the worlds leading brands within marine and industrial diesel engines, as well as a leading supplier of diesel generator sets.

SABB LB-series lifeboat engine


SABB lifeboat engine program 20 55 HP is based on Lister-Petter engines. This renowned engine manufacturer has carefully been chosen by our company to combine the advantages of large scale production and competitive prices with the experience and knowledge of Frydenb Sabb Motor AS in the completion of the lifeboat engines.

The program tests


Cold starting at minus15C within 2 minutes. Operation for minimum 5 minutes immersed in water to centre of crankshaft. Inversion of running engine through 360 degrees (Capsize test). Out-of-water test of engine to simulate operation before launching lifeboat.

The need of spare parts to a lifeboat engine is modest. However, when spare parts are required, immediate delivery is essential. Frydenb Sabb Motor AS, located at the seaside of western Norway, takes pride in offering prompt and express spare part service directly from our factory. All vital parts are stocked at all times, and can be swiftly dispatched, by ship or airfreight, to any corner of the world.
